Four wee landscapes completed today using Derwent Inktense blocks and Winsor and Newton soft pastels. The colours of the landscape are quickly changing autumnal in North East Scotland and my colour palette seems to have followed suit! My favourite time of year 🍂🥰

After months of not being able to spend any time in my studio, I managed a short spell up there today 😁

I started a new piece using ink and acrylic inks on canvas and put the finishing touches to some pieces I started last year. Happy day 🥰

And just like that, we're 3 weeks into August and I realise I haven't posted anything since the beginning of July 😱
For the past few weeks I've been playing with different materials to create small sketchbook pieces and it's been a lot of fun!
I've never really kept a sketchbook but it's become a great way for me to do a little bit of art (almost) every day. I'm still working on more detailed pieces, but for now, here's a few of my favourites 🥰

A couple of weeks ago I had a play with tea and coffee! The first attempt felt a bit pale so I used heavier consistencies for the second attempt and I think it turned out to be so much more interesting - especially the swirls created using a comb!

In the past few days I've kept going back and adding layers of ink and acrylic, then took a notion to add some embroidery stitches. I have to say I am quite pleased with the results. Photos 4 & 6 have a feeling of trees and plants in a forest to me 😍

These mini works for my sketchbook are certainly getting me thinking about creating some canvas pieces soon. Do you have any favourite elements? 🤔

WIP sea life lino prints!

I have some way to go with my technique, and I should probably start with something a bit easier, but I had fun doing this fish and sea dragon!

Aside from playing with different mediums in my sketchbooks recently, I've also been collecting materials and creating stamps and stencils to use in my creative work. It's been so much fun to experiment and learn new techniques during some downtime 🤩

Sometimes it's nice to do something out of your comfort zone and explore new materials. These two portraits were a surprise gift for a wonderful friend of mine - her gorgeous wee boy and beautiful, sleepy cat. Sweet memories captured forever ❤️

In a change from my normal medium, I used coloured pencils on extra smooth bristol paper, which is best for my pen and ink work, but created a lovely soft and light effect with the pencils.

I am unbelievably grateful for the kindness of an amazing friend who sent a magnificent art station to me. My inner child is so excited!!! ❤️🥰

Sweet Cassie recently crossed the rainbow bridge and a family member commissioned me to do a portrait for the human family she left behind.

A typical beagle, she was full of adventure and undoubtedly leaves many happy memories with those who loved her, which I hope will spring to mind every time they look at her portrait ❤️
