📚 JUST 3 WEEKS UNTIL OUR SPECIAL AUTHOR EVENT! 📚

🔍 Best selling local true crime writer Mark Bridgeman will be hosting a special event at the Watermill on Wednesday 14th October at 7pm, at which he will be discussing his latest book, the award nominated TUULA: A True Crime Tragedy - the story of the Island of Jersey's only unsolved murder.
2026 is the 60th anniversary of the brutal killing of a brilliantly talented young Finnish girl, Tuula. With her life ahead of her, and a dream job lined up, Tuula's body was discovered in a remote country lane. She had been brutally murdered in a seemingly motiveless crime.
🔍 Discover how Mark set about solving a crime with no witnesses, no motive, no murder weapon, no fingerprints, and only one clue, in a case that has thwarted the police for six decades.
Mark will be bringing evidence from the case together with exclusive film and material from his three-year investigation, and discussing an upcoming podcast and TV documentary on Tuula's murder. There will also be time for a Q&A, and a chance to obtain copies of the book.

England, reeling from plague and years of conflict abroad, is a tinderbox waiting to spark.
Two childhood friends ride into the town of Brentwood, Essex, where they come upon an altercation with a local Justice bent on squeezing more coin from the masses.
Thus begins a rebellion of the common folk - loyal to the king, but not to those wealthy landowners who curtail their freedoms; the multitude finding cause against the powers that threaten their livelihoods.
Set over sixteen days, Doom Painting roves across England as the revolt grows and swells and the rebels march to London to take their demands to the child-king Richard II.
In the meeting of peasantry and nobility, new versions of England are born, and - for one bloody summer - the people of England seize control.

🏆 The shortlist for the Booker Prize 2026 has been announced, featuring two previous winners, a previous shortlistee, and three authors new to the prize

The shortlist of six books has been selected by the 2026 judging panel, chaired by celebrated classicist, writer and broadcaster Mary Beard. Beard is joined by award-winning poet, writer and educator Raymond Antrobus; musician, writer and broadcaster Jarvis Cocker; journalist, editor and critic Rebecca Liu; and Booker Prize-shortlisted novelist, poet and essayist Patricia Lockwood.

The prize has rewarded and celebrated world-class talent for over 55 years, shaping the canon of 20th and 21st century English language literature. This year’s selection, which was chosen from ‘the Booker Dozen’ of 13 titles, selected from 163 submissions, celebrates the best works of long-form fiction by writers of any nationality, written in English and published in the UK and/or Ireland between 1 October 2025 and 30 September 2026.
