💚✨ It's been a little while since we reintroduced ourselves, so hello to all our lovely new followers! ✨💚
Hi! I'm Lexi, the crocheter, creature creator, painter, professional collector of crafty side quests, and general maker of all things here at NerdyTortoises. 🧶🐢
I first learnt to crochet twelve years ago whilst I was at university after joining the Knitting and Crochet Society... which, yes, really is how I spent my wild Friday nights! 😂🧶
From the moment I picked up a crochet hook, I was hooked (I couldn't resist that one! 😉). I absolutely fell in love with crochet... and I may or may not have spent the odd lecture secretly crocheting instead of taking notes. 🤫📚
Over the years, crochet has always been something I've come back to because it brings me so much joy. Out of everything you can make with yarn, amigurumi completely stole my heart. There's something so magical about taking a simple ball of yarn and, stitch by stitch, bringing an adorable little creature to life with its own personality. 🐸🦊🐉✨
In 2020, Mike encouraged me to stop dreaming about having my own little business and to actually give it a go. What started as a tiny display on a rather sad little laptop table has slowly grown into the magical Ye Olde Menagerie that I'm so incredibly proud of today. 🥹💚
NerdyTortoises has also given me something I never thought I'd find—a way to build a career around what I do best. Being autistic and living with a chronic illness means a traditional 9–5 was never quite the right fit for me. Creating magical companions, travelling to markets, meeting so many wonderful people, and spending my days being creative has allowed me to do something I genuinely love. I feel incredibly lucky that this little dream has become a reality. ❤️
Although crochet is definitely my favourite craft, I'm a firm believer that life is far more fun with a few creative side quests! 🎨✨ When I'm not surrounded by yarn, you'll probably find me painting, drawing tiny ACEOs, making macramé keyrings, folding intricate iris cards, or enthusiastically trying yet another craft I've convinced myself I absolutely need to learn. 😂
When I'm not making things at all, I'm usually curled up with a good book (I'm a huge fan of The Shadowhunter Universe by Cassandra Clare 📚), tending my farm in Stardew Valley 🌱, climbing viewpoints in Assassin's Creed 🦅, or heading off on adventures with my little family—Mike and our cheeky little dog, Henry. 🐶💚
One thing I often joke about is that I don't really sell plushies... I sell serotonin. 😄✨ Every magical companion is made with love, ready to bring comfort, smiles, and a little bit of magic to whoever adopts them. Seeing them head off on adventures with all of you is genuinely the best part of what I do.
Finally, I just want to say thank you. ❤️ Whether you've followed us here on Facebook, found us on Instagram or TikTok, stopped by for a chat at a market, shared one of our posts, or adopted one of our magical companions to join you on your adventures... thank you.
Your support means more than I could ever put into words, and I'm so grateful you've chosen to be part of the NerdyTortoises story. 🥹🐢✨
If you're new here, we'd love to get to know you too! Tell us a little about yourself in the comments, or if you've already adopted one of our magical creatures, let us know who you took home—we absolutely love seeing where their adventures take them! 💚🧶
