I’ve just had a restock from Iolair Yarn - and it’s gorgeous!
It’s been very hard to put this stunning yarn out on the shelves, I want to keep it all. Pure luxury in a skein.

All this - plus it’s so versatile and lovely to handle, whether you knit, crochet, felt or spin.
I think we have the best wool in the world (other countries may have other views🤣) but where else have you so many native breeds with such different textures, characteristics, and wool handling?

If you are involved in apparel design, product development, or sustainable textiles, there is one technical property of wool that makes it an absolute superpower: it is hygroscopic.

While synthetic fibres are repelling water but trapping vapour against the skin, wool fibres actively interact with the local micro-climate. Wool can absorb up to 35% of its dry weight in moisture vapour without feeling damp or losing its thermal insulation properties.

I’ve just got a new delivery of beautiful self-shading, rustic wool from the traditional Pāce mill in Dundaga, in Latvia.
Look at these gorgeous colours!😍

I’ll be hand washing all the wool before I put it up for sale, to remove the oils added during spinning. But if any weavers would like it unwashed, please give me a shout👍😊

I’ve been redecorating several rooms in my house (about time too!) and The Yard - Alford has been so incredibly helpful. Paint has moved on since the last round of decorating, and I’ve really appreciated their advice.

🎉 This week, we’re celebrating 2 years in the shop! 🥳

The time has absolutely flown by, and we’ve truly enjoyed meeting and serving all of our wonderful customers over the past two years.
