Kings Lodge Honey all started when we bought a hive for a Christmas present back in 2017, with acquiring our first swam of bees late June and set about learning all we could about keeping and managing the bees.

We've been a bit late getting this posted but our bees have had a fantastic summer 🐝🌞. Our hives are located in both Althorne and Latchingdon. We have both set and runny honey jars for sale at £6.00 each or 2 for £10.00. For those that enjoy honeycomb we can also sell full frames.
Collection from Southminster or we can also deliver. We will also be at Burnham alternative market (BAM) for the December market. 🐝🍯😋

So it's that time of the year again to start making Sloe Gin, in the past we have tried many different combinations but since adding our honey we were amazed at how good it tastes. So this year we are just adding honey, one with normal honey and one with heated honey which comes from heating the cappings, roll on 8 months! 🍯 #2022

Last weekend we started harvesting the honey. The bees have been super busy these last few months and we had several supers that were full ready for extraction. We never take all of the honey as we have to leave enough feed for the bees to see them through winter.

Back in the summer the bushes around our hives were covered in blossom. Today we checked our hives and started winter feeding and the bushes were full of sloes.
It would be wasteful not to use these so we started the process of our homemade sloe gin sweetened from our honey. Just got to wait a while till its ready to drink.....watch this space

Collected our first swarm of the year yesterday evening. This was done using a hoover box which works really gently getting the majority of the honeybees into the box and then into a hive. 🐝🍯

Inspection of the hives today, unfortunately we lost 2 during the winter but the rest are doing very well. There is plenty of tree blossom in this spot which the bees have been busy collecting the pollen to take back to the hives..🐝🍯
