Quick Tip Tuesday is about our Garment Fitting Service.

If you haven't already made your fitting appointment for your wedding or prom this summer, don't delay!

If you are attending a fitting for a ladies' formal outfit or a bridal fitting, please always have the underwear and shoes (or shoes of the same height), which you intend to wear on the day. Don't underestimate how details like this can affect your balance and posture! It is also useful to have your item/s in a hanging suit or gown bag, sufficiently long to allow it to hang full length. We do stock these.
More information about what to expect at a bridal or fitting here: https://amblepincushion.co.uk/bridalprom/services-for-the-ladies/

When gentlemen are attending a fitting for a suit jacket, please wear a long sleeved shirt, have a suit bag, and the shoes you will be wearing.

During our polymer clay button workshop, one participant told us about "pin money," which I thought would make an interesting Sunday Read:

"Pin money" originated in 16th-century England, when straight pins were scarce, handcrafted, and expensive. Husbands and fathers provided women with a specific allowance—literally called pin money—to purchase these costly necessities for their clothing and households. As pins became cheaper and mass-produced, the term evolved. By the late 1600s, it referred to a wife's private annual allowance for personal fancies, clothing, and incidentals outside the general household budget. Here is how the expression transformed over time:
16th Century: Refers to the literal purchase of expensive and essential brass pins used in dressmaking. Early records include a 1542 English will detailing a father's provision for his daughter "to by her pynnes withal".
17th Century: Formalized in law. The first explicit use of the phrase appeared in English courts (circa 1674) to describe a legal allowance a husband settled on his wife for personal expenses in case of a separation.
19th & 20th Centuries: Evolved to describe supplementary income. It was later used in a belittling way to dismiss the earnings of working women as merely trivial or for "incidentals."
