If you are after some outdoor clothing or outdoor gear and wan

t to to be the best, then we should have the equipment to suit your needs. Even if we don't stock it at the time, we'll be more than happy to order it in for you. Operating still as a relatively small Lake District business, customer service is incredibly important to us and we will try our very best to accommodate your outdoor needs and requests, with minimal fuss.

Your helmet has one job: protect the brain that gets you to the summit. 🧠⛰️

Check it before every climb — cracks, dents, loose straps, damaged foam, or worn buckles all mean it’s time to retire it.
And after any major impact?
Replace it, even if it looks fine. Invisible damage is still damage.

Gear ages. Safety doesn’t. 🧗‍♂️

Camp responsibly 🏕️

Here’s some of the things to keep in mind before you go camping:

⛺️Be inconspicuous. Choose your location wisely: only use remote locations, well above the highest wall line and out of sight of civilisation.

⛺️Stay for one night only. Pitch camp late and leave early, and don’t leave tents up during the day.

⛺️Don’t use camp fires or BBQs. They are highly destructive in sensitive mountain landscapes. Use a camping stove instead. During high fire risk periods, don’t use any open flame.

⛺️Need the toilet? Removing all human waste using a packable toilet kit is the best solution. Away from popular spots, as a last resort, bury solid waste 15cm deep, replacing the earth afterwards. Pack out your toilet paper and sanitary products in a zip-lock bag.

⛺️Wash up and toilet a minimum of 50m from any water sources.

⛺️Choose durable ground. Pitch your tent on well drained ground that won’t be easily damaged or leave traces of your visit.

⛺️Leave no trace. If you take it in, take it out. Try to remove any litter you find too. Pack out all food waste -
it takes much longer than you think to decompose. Replace any rocks you’ve moved.

⛺️Use lights on their lowest setting around camp. Light and noise is very noticeable at night and can disturb wildlife and people.

⛺️Keep group sizes small. Large groups can have a huge impact.

⛺️Use campsites in the valleys. If you want to camp in the valley floor, always use a formal campsite with facilities to minimise your impact and help the local economy.

This is the advice that we follow 🏕️

💥 JB Big Tick Competition 💥

Our staff member Karolina shared some shots from one of the routes on the ticklist — Table Direct / Cyfrwy Arete on Cadair Idris ⛰️

Here’s what she had to say:

“Table Direct on Cadair Idris was a really cool way to start the Cyfrwy Arete itself — and what a beautiful day we picked to do it.

The views were stunning the whole way, from the walk-in to topping out on Cadair Idris. We chose this route because it’s one of Aled’s favourite mountains and favourite VDiffs.

I also got to learn where the name Cadair Idris (‘Idris’ Chair’) comes from. Idris was a giant, poet, astronomer and philosopher who used the mountain as his throne. It’s said the huge boulders below were stones he shook from his shoes.

Legend has it that anyone who sleeps on the mountain will wake up either a madman or a poet… or never wake again. Love a good myth!” ✨

Want to get involved this summer?

The JB Big Tick Challenge is all about getting out on classic North Wales rock, discovering new routes, and having a brilliant season climbing with friends. (The Climbers Shop / Joe Brown Blog)
