⚠️ A quick but important safety reminder for anyone who ties their horse with baler twine ⚠️
Do you tie your horse with baler twine because you think:
• It’s safe
• It will break because it’s “just string”
• Everyone else does it
•I’ve got an abundance
•It’s quick and easy and free
Most of us have thought exactly that at some point. But today was a very real reminder of why it isn’t as safe as people assume.
My horse was tied with a proper quick‑release bungee, and when he suddenly panicked, he broke the elastic and freed himself. He pulled hard enough to reach the point of failure — and then he ran off.
If that had been baler twine, I genuinely don’t believe it would have snapped before the stable wall, the headcollar, or the lead rope did. And that’s when serious injuries happen.
We all think, “My horse is good as gold when tied up.”
But it only takes one spook, one slip, one moment of pressure, and the outcome can be very different.
Baler twine is designed to hold hundreds of kilos on a bale — not to protect a horse’s neck, poll, or spine.
We have safe breakaway options in stock
If you’re still tying up with twine, now is the perfect time to swap over. We currently have:
• Quick‑release bungees
• Breakaway ties
• Safe‑tie rings/clips
All available to purchase in the shop so you can replace twine with something designed to fail safely.
Small changes prevent big accidents.
