Up at my out apiary on Thursday evening to check the apideas had enough stores to last the week and decided to inspect the hives whilst there. So glad I did as was lucky to see one of our BT41 Honey queens actively laying. If you look closely you’ll see the egg she is going to deposit into an empty cell. This wee pet is a 2024 queen. Her green mark is starting to wear off but she’s still going rightly πŸ‘πŸ

We have honey!! 🐝🐝🐝
At last the first super has been removed and extracted on Saturday. I’m away until the weekend which will allow the honey to settle before jarring up. Well done the girls they’ve done a great job againπŸ‘πŸ

Bad news / good news !🐝
One of my hives had laying workers after a queen failed to mate and didn’t come back to the hive last month. This could have been due to the horrendous bad weather we had or she could have been taken by the swallows or something. Always a risk but it has never happened to me. Anyway, long story short I was left with laying workers who because they haven’t mated can only produce drones and what a mess they make! The frames are a complete disaster so will need to be sacrificed also. It’s an expensive experience as not only have you lost a hive but you’ve lost your drawn comb- the most valuable commodity to a beekeeper. However that said, this hive had 2 supers and as the first was capped we now have honey. Yeah!!!!
I’ll get this extracted over the weekend and leave to settle before jarring up next weekend
Better late than never so thank you all for your patience. Honey is now here and if this weather holds we will have a bumper harvest Thanks as always for your support xxπŸ‘πŸ

🐝Have you spotted an unusual looking bee in your garden? It could be a tree bumblebee – a new arrival here which nests in tree cavities, bird nest boxes and roof eaves!

You can help our bees and other by reducing mowing to allow native wildflowers to grow and avoiding using insecticides and pesticides.
