🌑✨ SOLAR ECLIPSE • 12 AUGUST 2026 ✨🌑

Tomorrow evening, the New Moon will pass between Earth and the Sun, giving us here in Northern Ireland a dramatic partial eclipse - with roughly 93% of the Sun covered around Belfast.

Eclipses are associated with change, revelation and redirection. They can illuminate what we’ve been avoiding, bring hidden truths to the surface and mark the ending of one chapter before another begins.

This eclipse falls in fiery Leo, bringing themes of identity, confidence, creativity, courage and allowing yourself to be truly seen.

Rather than attempting to manifest seventeen things before teatime, use this energy to pause, reflect and release what no longer fits.

Some little journal prompts:

🌑 Where have I been making myself smaller?
🌑 What version of myself am I ready to leave behind?
🌑 What truth can I no longer ignore?
🌑 What deserves to take centre stage in my life?

For a simple ritual, write down something you’re ready to release. Sit with it during the eclipse, then safely tear it up or burn it afterwards. It doesn’t need to be elaborate - the intention is the important bit.

You could work with black, gold, orange and deep red, or crystals such as sunstone, tiger’s eye, obsidian and smoky quartz. These are symbolic correspondences, not strict rules, so don’t panic if you don’t own the officially sanctioned eclipse rock collection 🤣

And if the energy feels too chaotic? Do nothing. Observe, rest and let things settle. Not every celestial event requires you to fling herbs around the kitchen.

⚠️ Never look directly at the Sun without proper protection. Ordinary sunglasses are not safe - use certified ISO 12312-2 eclipse glasses or an indirect viewing method.

Here’s hoping the Northern Irish clouds don’t decide they’d also like to obscure the Sun. 🌧️🤣

🌻 August Correspondences 🌻

(***If you’ve been around for a while, you might remember I started this monthly correspondences series last year… and then it abruptly stopped after July. 🙈

Life happened, my mental health took a nosedive, and creating became something I wanted to do but just couldn’t. Looking back, it makes me a little sad that I never finished it.

So… we’re trying again. 💛

Same idea, but with a fresh aesthetic, a bit more research, and (hopefully!) a prettier little series to carry us through the year.***)

August is a month of abundance, gratitude and gathering the rewards of everything you’ve been nurturing. It’s the bridge between the fiery energy of summer and the grounded feeling of the coming harvest.

You’ll notice I’ve chosen Heather rather than Poppy for August. That’s completely intentional. Correspondences vary between traditions, countries and even individual practitioners. I personally feel like Heather feels much more representative of August here in the UK and Ireland, whereas I know that Poppy is more commonly used in other traditions. Neither is “wrong.” They’re simply different paths through the same garden. 🌿

As always, these are guides rather than rules. If another flower, crystal or herb reminds you of August more than the ones listed here, use it. Your practice doesn’t need permission to be personal.

POV: You can’t leave anything un-witchified.

It’s never really about the furniture.

It’s the hours spent finding the right little pieces, arranging them, changing my mind, rearranging them again, and adding all the details that make it feel lived in.

Not the “wake up at 5am, drink celery juice and become a whole new person” kind…

The “light a candle, pull a card, touch some grass and remember you’re a tiny human being warmed by a giant ball of nuclear fire” kind.

If your practice follows planetary correspondences, Sunday is traditionally associated with the Sun - making it a lovely day for workings around confidence, joy, vitality and personal power.

Or… you could simply sit in the sunshine with a cuppa.

That’s pretty magical too. 🖤

This is a massive topic, and there are loads of different opinions out there. This post isn’t me pretending to be the authority on it - it’s just me sharing what I’ve learned so far.

If it encourages you to go away and do a bit more reading of your own, then I’ve done my job. And if I learn something new tomorrow? Even better. I love learning.

Candle colours aren’t just about looking pretty.
Each one has its own traditional correspondences, helping to support different intentions - from protection and grounding to creativity, confidence and self-love.

It’s one of my favourite parts of creating spell candle kits, especially when someone asks for something completely bespoke.
Pairing colours, herbs, crystals and oils to match their intention is honestly one of the best parts of what I do! ✨

(And if you’re ever missing the “right” colour, don’t panic - white has your back. Always.)
