The Boathouse is the factory outlet and showroom for Silverbirch canoes and Tootega kayaks. Both brands are designed, developed, and manufactured on-site here in rural Norfolk and have won awards and praise around the globe. We are passionate paddlers ourselves, with over 50 years of combined paddling experience in everything from flatwater marathon and sprint, to freestyle, surf, slalom, and whitewater expedition paddling. So you can be assured we have the relevant experience to give you the best possible advice at all times. Our business ethos is to only stock product we personally believe in, and to only offer product for sale that we actually have stock of. This allows us to offer demos of all the watercraft we have for sale, and allows our customers the ability to try on all clothing items before buying – something vitally important with safety equipment like helmets and PFD’s (personal flotation devices)

Heading home after a fantastic weekend at the Open Kano Festival. We were there showing our range of Silverbirch, Hou, and Wenonah canoes.
This was our first time at the festival and can’t recommend it enough. Based at a lovely venue and with a superb relaxed vibe making it great to be there regardless of the paddling! We got to meet some really knowledgeable paddlers and made lots of new friends, what more could you want from a paddling festival!

What exactly is a Wonky Boat and The Wonky Boats Initiative? 🛶

Sometimes, a boat leaves the mould with a scratch, dent or small cosmetic imperfection. It may not meet the high standards required for retail, but it is still structurally sound, fully functional and ready for the water.

Previously, many of these boats would have been recycled. We believed there was a better option.

Through the Wonky Boats Initiative, suitable boats are donated to paddling clubs, youth programmes, grassroots organisations and other deserving groups across the UK—helping them get more people onto the water without the cost of purchasing new equipment.

It gives great boats a second life, reduces unnecessary waste and supports organisations making a genuine difference in their communities.

As Ray Goodwin puts it: they may be slightly wonky, but they are still perfectly serviceable boats with plenty of adventures ahead of them.

This is not about clearing shelves. It is about giving back.

The initiative is facilitated by The Boathouse in collaboration with Silverbirch Canoes, Hou Canoes and Tootega Kayaks.
