Beebaw

Beebaw I create keepsake and memory toys, blankets and cushions from your loved ones treasured possessions.

Its great to get the special clothes out of the loft or bag and on to the shelf. My name is Beth and I am a mum of 2 small children and have been sewing for as long as I can remember. I have vivid memories of when I got the sewing bug, back in primary school when I made a personalised apron. I've been creating quirky and fun things since I completed my Degree in Textile Design (many moons ago). Th

is started off with wall hangings and quirky baby quilts, this has developed into all sorts of handmade gifts: car seat blankets, quilts of all sizes, wall hangings, keepsake or memory toys, storage pockets, cushions, gym bags and various Santa sacks and Christmas Stockings. I was inspired to start making memory gifts after a mother, who sadly lost her child, approached me to create memory blankets from his clothes. It was such a pleasure to help to preserve their memories of their son. Since then, I’ve created memory gifts for others and I love being part of it. From hearing their stories and understanding what each piece of fabric means, to seeing their expressions when they see the finished items and knowing how much it means to them, it is a treasure that is difficult to put into words. I get so excited about each project I do and love the challenge of creating something unique. I love creating handmade memory gifts and I lovingly take every item of clothing to custom-make each blanket, toy or cushion etc to order. I use a combination of bought patterns, patterns I have adapted or my own designs. So, with the various fabric combinations, each item is uniquely hand crafted. I understand how important it is to hang on to the memories as they grow up so fast. Memories are very important and helping others to preserve memories is like writing my own, perfect, job description.

Tll the fabric is interfaced and ready to cut into shapes. I am choosing to make a different pattern with this one and have used a pattern called Grandstand Quilt.

I have had a really busy year this year and loved sewing all your precious keepsakes.

I got quite emotional the other day when speaking to one of my first customers, from over 10 years ago. If it wasn't for her trusting me in at the beginning I would not be here all these years later. I absolutly love what I do and thought I would just pop a wee message to thank every one of you for Liking, Sharing, Supporting, and Trusting me.

So, I thought I would share some of my keepsakes from the beginning, they would probably take me hours and hours to make just one. As I couldn't say it was finished.
I started off making, mostly, Baby Keepsakes (before the bears became so popular).

Here are a few, starting with the very first one, the Owl that started it all. Gosh they take me back, that is 12 years Iv'e been making these.

Love you all

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. 🐻💚

I thought I would remind you of the quilt I started making out of my daughters old toddler clothing.

I have started it now, whoop, only a year and a half later!

anyway, here is a reminder of the selection of clothing I was using, included with this is her old cot sheets.

Throughout the design porcess I have elimiated a few of the garments. When I started to assemble the quilt they just didn't fit. So, loads with of unpicking, we are nearly there and the face of the quilt is created.

This post is to encourage me to actually finish it.

I hope this will be cherished for years to come.

You may remember the beautiful precious Billy Bear.

This is not something I usually do but I do like a challenge and after a few trial runs I felt comfortable enough to use my clients loved ones clothing. This shirt was very special and Billy was a special gift.

So, I created a little shirt for him using the treasured shirt. All the original items were used and I have to say he looks rather dapper.

What do you think?

I got a bit carried away with this one and forgot to take progress photos. But after I had constructed the front of the quilt, I used Heatbond and adhered the Levis logos to the face of the quilt. I would quilt these in place during the quilting process.

I started off by cutting strips of fabric from the shirts at the correct width

I would then sew them together in strips and later cut them down to the appropriate sizes

Once I did that, I could start constructing my 5 lines; ensuring they were in the correct order

this was the design ideas. Obviously working with shirts there is a limited amount of fabric so had to use a design that would utilise all these different patterns and colour. The challenge was incorporating the Levis logo from the t-shirts.

here were my design options
