Short Dahlias

Whatever your colour preference, there’ll be short dahlias to suit, some single colours, some two or more shades on one flower.

These are much shorter and compact than the classic dahlias, so they make great plants for containers or for adding splashes of colour to a flower bed. Make sure they have a good, sunny site and are kept well-watered, and they’ll provide a good show of flowers from late summer into autumn.

Regularly removing flowers as they fade helps to keep these non-stop flowering
plants performing for as long as possible.

Argyranthemums

Also often known as marguerites, these are some of the showiest daisy-like flowers you could wish for.

Stunning flowers from spring right through until early autumn, and available in a wide range of colours. The foliage is attractive too, finely divided and a good greyish green. These are great in all sizes of containers, and in flower beds too.

They’re mostly used as annuals, meaning they display for just one year, but if kept protected from frost, trimmed and then planted into fresh compost the following year, plants may last.

Keep them flowering (and attracting bees and other pollinators!) with regular high-potash liquid feed, often known as tomato fertiliser and cut off faded flowers regularly.

Plant of the moment - Nemesias! 🔔

With a compact and tumbling habit, Nemesias are so rewarding and should be in every garden and patio.

Compact and with a constant supply of flowers from May through until early autumn, nemesias are perfect plants for pots and planters, but also make great garden border summer colour plants.

Most are 20-30cm tall, and their flowers are often strongly perfumed – and great for bees and other pollinating insects. Nemesias are easy to maintain, and, like other ‘bedding’ plants, they’ll perform better and for longer if regularly fed with a high-potash liquid feed, often known as tomato fertiliser. In sheltered regions some Nemesias are surprisingly hardy and may survive the winter.
