Massive Attack – Blue Lines (1991)

It’s difficult to imagine modern electronic music without Blue Lines.

Massive Attack took hip-hop beats, soul, reggae, dub and electronic music and fused them into something completely new. While many point to this as the birth of trip hop, its influence stretches far beyond any one genre.

Featuring unforgettable guest vocals from Shara Nelson and Horace Andy, Blue Lines proved that dance music could be thoughtful, cinematic and just as powerful at home as it was in the club.

A landmark British album whose influence is still heard across electronic music more than 30 years later.

Standout tracks: Unfinished Sympathy / Safe From Harm / Daydreaming

I was genuinely gutted to hear of William Orbit’s passing.

To me, he wasn’t just one of the greatest music producers of his generation. He was a true visionary whose work changed the sound of modern music.

Artists such as Madonna, Peter Gabriel, Seal, Pink, Depeche Mode, Sasha, Robbie Williams, Prince. Kraftwerk, Blur…and hundreds more have all benefitted from the work of his genius.

This list of artists he worked with reads like a who’s who of music royalty, but what always stood out to me was his ability to bring emotion, atmosphere and beauty into everything he touched.

RIP ❤️

Bob Marley & The Wailers – Exodus (1977)

Bob Marley wasn’t just the biggest name reggae has ever produced, he became one of the most recognisable musicians on the planet.

Released after Marley survived an assassination attempt in Jamaica, Exodus blended reggae, soul, funk and spirituality into a record that would spend more than a year in the UK album charts.

Packed with warmth, optimism and unforgettable melodies, it’s easy to hear why many regard this as the defining reggae album.

Shop is open today, Sunday, from 1pm - 4pm.

Happy Fathers Day to all.

On reflection, yesterday was one of the most positive days that I’ve seen in our beautiful town in a long time. There was such a buzz around the place and people were visiting from all over the country.

Sadly I only caught the very tail end of the busking as shop was packed, but everyone I spoke to at the after event was speaking so fondly of the hard work that went in.

Shop wise I met so many incredible new people from all over and had a great day’s craic.

Great to have the brilliant Ralph McLean call into the shop today.

A proper N. Ireland broadcasting legend, best known for his long-running work with BBC Radio Ulster, championing music, film, arts, Americana, soul, rock and all the good stuff with real knowledge and passion.

Lovely to have someone who has done so much for music and culture here over the years, drop in.

And he walked out with 8 records as well 😊

That’s a glorious day in one of the finest towns in our country.

Replay, as you know, is based in Banbridge, a town that I grew up in and holds a special place in my heart.

Today in the town, is the annual Buskfest event.

This event sees 70-100 buskers, bands and musicians play throughout the entire day at the shop windows around the town, all with the chance of winning from a pot of £4,500 with multiple music industry mentoring prizes included.

Today I have a lot of new customers messaging and planning on visiting the shop. Please be advised that the town is incredibly busy, so if you can find parking on the roads leading into town, please do so as the main car parks will be very busy.

Have a beautiful day.

Gary ❤️

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced (1967)

It’s difficult to overstate the impact Jimi Hendrix had on popular music.

When Are You Experienced arrived in 1967, guitar playing was never quite the same again. Hendrix blended blues, rock, psychedelia and feedback into something that sounded completely revolutionary at the time.

Backed by Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell, The Jimi Hendrix Experience created a debut album packed with invention, attitude and enough iconic riffs to influence generations of musicians that followed.

More than half a century later, it still sounds remarkably fresh.

Standout tracks: Purple Haze / Foxy Lady / Fire
