This week we’ve loved running our Improver Salmon Fishing Course on the stunning Lower Dess Estate & Commonty beats at Ballogie Estate

Based at Dess Lodge, Anna and the team looked after our guests brilliantly, Ali the Ghillie when over and above as always, and our guides focused on building confidence both on the water and with a wide range of tactics.

The course builds on the casts you already know, introduces new casts, tackles difficult banks and, most importantly, puts a huge emphasis on tactics. Our guests were encouraged to fish their least-favourite casts, try different approaches and get hands-on experience with the Sunray, Hitch, micro flies, Francis and Snaelda.

Across three days, our team landed 8 salmon and grilse, hooked many more, and even celebrated two guests catching their first-ever salmon! 🎣

Scottish salmon fishing isn’t what it once was, but if you’re prepared to get out there, build your confidence and put the effort into developing your tactics, there is still some fantastic sport to be had.

Labrador Puppies available 🐾 – Breagha’s Final Litter
We are delighted to announce that Breagha’s final litter of Labrador puppies will soon be available. This will be the last opportunity to have a puppy from Breagha.

The puppies are sired by Cammy from Kim Tedcastle, with both parents boasting excellent working pedigrees, including Field Trial Champions and winners throughout the bloodlines.

These beautiful pups will be perfect for that next working dog or as a family pet. Limited availability so get in touch soon if interested.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join one of the River Spey's most respected salmon fishing beats.
Arndilly Fishings is seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking, and personable River Ghillie with a genuine
passion for salmon fishing and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. Working
alongside the existing team, you will play a key role in maintaining the high standards and reputation of the
beat while ensuring guests enjoy an outstanding fishing experience.
Key Responsibilities
• Guide and assist guests throughout their fishing experience, providing expert advice, and
impeccable knowledge of the river.
• Deliver a welcoming, professional, and attentive service, ensuring guests are well looked after at all
times.
• Maintain estate fishing huts, riverbanks, equipment, and other beat infrastructure to a high
standard.
• Ensure the beat, facilities, and equipment are presented in a clean, tidy, and professional condition.
• Maintain accurate catch records and prepare reports as required.
• Provide a visible presence on the river to help deter poaching and report any concerns to the Head
Ghillie.
• Assist with habitat improvement works, river maintenance, and other estate duties as required.
• Work safely and responsibly in accordance with estate policies and relevant health and safety
legislation.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will:
• Have proven experience in a similar River Ghillie or fisheries management role.
• Possess excellent knowledge of Atlantic salmon fishing and river craft.
• Be personable, professional, and confident when interacting with guests.
• Take pride in delivering exceptional customer service.
• Be self-motivated, reliable, and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
• Hold relevant qualifications or certificates for the safe operation of off-road vehicles, chainsaws,
pesticides, or other estate machinery (desirable).
• Hold a full, current UK driving licence.
• Have the legal right to work in the UK.
• Be available to commence employment from January 2027

Moments like this is what it’s all about!! We had the pleasure of guiding Stefano today, he recently moved to Deeside and is super keen to try out salmon fishing on the river Dee….

Well day one of trying it out he not only mastered the casting but landed his first Atlantic salmon!!

Huge congrats a great achievement and surely hooked now 🎣🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💪

Another cracking 3 days on the Holkna 🇮🇸

15 salmon to the bank with a few more lost. Small flies and subtle hitches did the business.
