As someone who doesn’t function all that well in the heat, I have taken the decision to close for the day. The temperature inside the kiosk is already over 31° and it’s not even 8am yet, and with a lack of any breeze to cool it down, it will be pretty unbearable. Sorry for any inconvenience - if anyone desperately needs anything, drop me a message as I can always pop down. We’ll be back open as normal on Friday.

Thank you for your understanding. Please everyone stay safe and keep hydrated during the heat wave!

This week we have a newly-published addition to the kiosk for our Book of the Week: Weird Guide by Dave Hamilton.

Exploring the most obscure and extraordinary hidden places around Britain, this guide is packed with over 300 locations to explore, 15 of which are in North Wales. It provides fascinating histories along with all the descriptions, coordinates, maps and directions to plan your adventures.

As a keen photographer I have been eager to get my hands on this book as I’m always looking for the next exciting place to explore and capture, and this guide is perfect for that.

After a week of birthday celebrations and family time, normal service is resumed, and what better way to celebrate than with this riotous explosion of colour from Môn Clay!

We had a fresh delivery of fantastical gonks just before my birthday and they’re certainly ready to enjoy the summertime party. All individually hand crafted and painted, there are never 2 identical, each with their own character, waiting to find their forever homes.

Come and see what we have in stock now!

This week our Book of the Week comes from the Flavours of Wales Collection. A very popular book, I was unable to source it for quite some time whilst it was being reprinted, but we’re glad to welcome the Welsh Cake Cookbook by Gilli Davies and Huw Jones back to our shelves.

One of the most unique and best loved of Welsh delicacies, this cook book takes you on a journey of exploration from the traditional recipe (using butter, fruit and spices), to some newer recipes such as heart shaped Lavender Welsh cakes, and hazelnut and treacle ones. There’s even some savoury recipes - I’m looking forward to attempting the Caerphilly Cheese and Leek ones!

Welsh Cakes are one of the most iconic flavours of Wales and now making them at home is that little bit easier with clear step by step instructions and beautiful photographs throughout.

As it’s my 40th birthday today, there is a free piece of cake for anybody popping into the kiosk today (Tuesday), while stocks last - I’m here until 4pm.

The kiosk will be closed this weekend, sorry for any inconvenience, so after today we will be back open at 10am on Tues 16th. I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Today I’m taking a trip down memory lane with Book of the Week, which seems only appropriate as I turn 40 tomorrow. Growing up we had a video of Spot that my brother and I watched over and over: The Adventures of Spot. Whilst writing this post, I searched YouTube and found a copy of it - if anyone fancies a bit of nostalgia I’ll post a link to it in the comments.

Imagine my delight when, as a Welsh learner, I came across Smot, the Welsh version of one of my childhood favourites. This bilingual lift-the-flap board book, Chwilia am Smot ar y Traeth - Find Smot at the Beach, follows Smot on his adventures at the beach. A delightful story, with seaside surprises to find behind each flap, it is sure to put smiles on little ones faces (and mine!)

This week’s Book of the Week is the Welsh learner favourite, Welcome to Welsh by Heini Gruffydd.

Whether you’re taking your very first steps in Welsh or looking to refresh what you’ve learned before, this book is designed to make learning Welsh practical, enjoyable, and accessible.

The course is divided into 16 progressive lessons, helping you build your confidence with grammar, vocabulary, and everyday conversation at a comfortable pace. Along the way you’ll find real-life dialogues, humorous cartoon stories, exercises to test your understanding, a handy 2,500-word dictionary, and free downloadable audio to support your learning.

Warm, approachable, and easy to follow, it’s no surprise that Welcome to Welsh remains a really popular Welsh language course!

Today is National Biscuit Day, and what better way to celebrate than by enjoying some delectable Aberffraw Biscuits made by Shepherd's Biscuits.

Legend has it that that a Welsh king was holding court in Aberffraw, on Anglesey. His wife went for a walk on the beach there, where she saw a pretty scallop shell and had a cake baked in its shape. These all-butter traditional Welsh Shortbreads, the oldest biscuit recipe in Britain, are still hand stamped with the shape of a scallop shell many centuries later!

It’s another stunning day on the pier!

The MetOffice has just released a thunderstorm warning for later today, with the possibility of flash flooding and power cuts. What better way to be prepared than with these beautiful candles from COHO ALTO Artisan Candles & Scents - not only providing light in the darkness but with gorgeous scents to soothe away any weather-induced stresses.
