Our town centre market is one of the oldest in Great Britain. It traces its origins right back to 1249 when a market was held under a market cross. The Market has undergone a refurbishment programme creating a single indoor modern market hall complemented by outdoor street stalls in a new town centre square. The indoor market has over 100 stalls located across two floors an is also home to Market Kitchen which houses three traditional cafes, a wide range of food outlets, a coffee shop and a bar. The outdoor market offers a range of different stalls throughout the week adding a real mix to the retail offer of the town centre. Barnsley town centre offers free parking every weekend in council car parks. Barnsley also has four district markets located in Goldthorpe, Hoyland, Wombwell and Pen*stone. The markets offer a variety of goods such as clothing, fruit and vegetables, groceries, meat, fish, pet supplies and household goods.
