✈️❤️ WOW - what an incredible Opening Night ❤️✈️

A performance that gave goosebumps, actors & musicians that lit up the stage and an audience with everyone on their feet in applause. 👏👏👏
A huge congrats to the cast who were loving it as much as everyone in the audience with the emotionally moving story - Come From Away. Based on a true story of those aboard planes grounding on that fateful day - September 11th 2001 and how a community came together to welcome and support those in need. It is easy to see how this Broadway sensational show swooped awards and it feels incredibly poignant to have it in North Devon this week at the 25th anniversary of 911.

📢 An enormous shout out must also go to those behind the scenes including the director, musical director, choreographer, sound/lightning and tech team. There was so much movement, humour, and the human spirit captured by the mesmerising cast from Barnstaple Musical Comedy & Dramatic Society who all took on multiple roles and sang their ❤️❤️❤️ out including:

Come From Away is the uplifting, heart-soaring musical that tells the remarkable true story of the tiny Newfoundland town of Gander and the 7,000 unexpected guests who landed on their doorstep in the days following September 11, 2001. As fear and uncertainty ripple across the world, the people of Gander open their homes and their hearts, proving that kindness can rise from the darkest of moments.

With just twelve actors portraying both the stranded “Plane People” and the extraordinary locals who sheltered them, Come From Away celebrates humanity at its best, resilience, unity, and the quiet courage of everyday compassion. This is not a September 11th story, but a September 12th story: a testament to the power of community and the bonds that change us forever.

Barnstaple Food bank Has Moved 🌽🍇🍗

It is now located in what was the old Shopmobility Centre next to Barnstaple Bus Station. There are private rooms available where one to one support and advice can be given on debt, benefits and housing.

The telephone numbers and email address will stay the same and so will the opening hours.

🔥 Field Fire in Newton Tracey - advice for locals from the incredible fire and rescue services.

We currently have a number of appliances dealing with a field fire in Newton Tracey, North Devon.

Steady progress is being made, however local residents are asked to keep their windows and doors closed while there is a large amount of smoke in the air.

💦South West Water issue a Hosepipe ban covering most of the South West. All customers in Devon, Cornwall, parts of Dorset and Somerset and the Isles of Scilly should not use hosepipes for certain activities (These included watering gardens, washing cars, patios and boats or filling up swimming and paddling pools.) due to significantly below average rainfall and high demand!

South West Water says the restrictions will come into force from from Saturday.

Military aircraft to carry out late-night tactical landings in North Devon this week

Residents across North Devon could notice increased military aircraft activity this week as tactical landing exercises are scheduled to take place around Royal Marines Base Chivenor.

According to the notice, military aircraft will be conducting tactical landings within a five nautical mile radius of the base between Monday 3 August and Thursday 6 August.

The planned activity is due to take place at the following times:

Monday 3 August: 5:30pm to 10:30pm
Tuesday 4 August: 4:30pm to 11:45pm
Wednesday 5 August: 5:00pm to 11:45pm
Thursday 6 August: 4:30pm to 11:45pm

People living in Barnstaple, Instow, Fremington, Braunton and surrounding areas may see or hear military aircraft operating during the evening as crews carry out the exercises.

Tactical landing training is a routine part of military operations, allowing aircrews to practise landing procedures in realistic conditions and maintain operational readiness.

While the activity may result in increased aircraft noise, there is no indication that the exercises pose any risk to the public.

Residents are advised not to be alarmed if they notice military aircraft flying in the area during the scheduled times.
