A River 20 Pike!! (104cm)
I started abit of a campaign after a river pike after giving it lots of thought over 5 years.
I started fishing rivers for pike late last year with and and both of them have seen pike in that time and everytime ive been staring down the barrel of a blank. And when conditions have been good ive been working.
Finally, the last weekend before the end of the coarse river season Stu and I headed out and the levels werent exactly "playing ball", after clambering and sliding down steep banks on the other side of the river to fish the deep margins, we reached a spot that we knew was around 9ft deep.
I was stood on a fallen tree trunk. Back casting over my left hand side to get the fly where i wanted it. Few strips, BANG. Stu was watching with the net "just incase" and he just said "jesus what a monster!"
She absolutely nailed it the fly out of no where
The SkyG 9ft 8wt was put through its paces and held up to this brute of a mama! And teamed with the it definitely stopped fish!
Now that the monkey is off my back and 2026 is off to a good start lets see what the bass and trout to say.
