This week is Deafness Awareness Week.

Books are for everyone, whether they are Hardback, Paperback, E Books, Large Print, Somewhere between, Read Along, Audio book or Braille. They inspire us and take us on our adventures where we can do anything!

If you can't see the format of book you are looking for (except E Books) in any of our shops please just ask as you never know what we might have and also pop along and support your local library and ask them as they might be able to get in what you are looking for.

Today is our 12th anniversary of becoming a charity!!!

The Global Educational Trust/GET Free Books started from humble beginnings with just Free Bookstalls. Then after a friend of our founder could not get a tenant we said we could help by becoming a temporary tenant and our first Free Bookshop was born.

Over the years we have had many bookshops until a more permanent tenant is found, we often bounce around the same town as long as we can but sadly sometimes we have to go into storage while we are waiting to comeback, like Bishop Auckland, Ipswich and Redcar but we do intend to come back, even locations where we haven't had an open shop for years. We have not forgotten you.

Our shops have become valued in any community they are in, and it is all due to the dedication of all of our wonderful volunteers helping our shops become inviting to all. We could not do this without them. This next year for the first time we are also for the first time heading to our founder's own community after 12 years of helping others around the UK.

These past few years we have rehomed over a million books every year. We never thought it was possible to have such an impact with just a few shops and we have all of you to thank for that. You have helped all these books from going to landfill, reduced local carbon footprint and recycling them the proper way while enriching people's lives.

Please Help!

We have posted our petition before but we are still in need of your help. Thank you if you have signed before and please can you share it again. Share it to anybody who you know might of visited one of our shops, or to local community pages. Every single signature helps as the more it is shared the more we can help local communities everywhere one of our shops are in and help return us to others.

It is nearly September. So giving it one last shot.

So far there has been a brilliant response but this is all about awareness of our charity, to say we are here and we intend to carry on sharing preloved books with the communities we are in.

We have added up the numbers this past month and our petition currently has over 630 signatures and across our few shops on Facebook we have over 10,000 Followers and over 9,000 page likes. That is amazing!

Things that signing (and sharing) the petition will do ...

*Shout from the rooftops we are here, we are a FREE Book charity and we love sharing books with our local communities!

*It shares awareness around the country and says we have all these customers who love our FREE Books. The last few years, each year we have had over a million books walk out of our doors on their way to new homes.

*We might be offered more shops as people see what we do and they think "I would love to help with that" it also might spark interest and help us return to towns that we had to temporarily leave as they found a more permanent tenant. We are always trying to return.

*Bring awareness of the charity so we can reach more customers who have not visited us before. They can come get their own Free Books and then tell their family and friends.

* We can reach more households where it is difficult for them to be able to access books, we can help with Education, Literacy and in turn Life Skills.

*Reading a book also can help with feeling good after a difficult day. You pick up a book and within a few lines you escape from this reality into another, it gives you those feel good feelings and helps with mental wellbeing and a Free Books is a lot cheaper way to get away and without having to leave your home.

*In our shops it does not matter how much money you do or do not have our books are available to all.

ASTOP has just won the Property and Construction Business of the Year Award at the West London Business Awards 2023 and we wish to send them our congratulations on what is approaching their 10th year.
Without ASTOP our charity would not be where we are today. The team at ASTOP are dedicated to revitalising our high streets, by transforming empty spaces and bringing life to dying towns, breathing new life into buildings that overtime could become derelict whilst helping charities find new homes. They help Town Centres and charities alike as well as local communities. Having a living shop increases footfall in the area and also makes the shop and local area more appealing to future businesses. ASTOP have helped bring most of our free bookshops to your local communities for which we will be forever grateful.
Congratulations ASTOP, Keep up the amazing work.
