🧬 A breakthrough in genetic understanding.

In 1992, DEBRA-funded research helped identify the first EB genes.

Just three years later, DNA-based prenatal diagnosis for EB became available, , giving families access to vital genetic information for the first time.

By 2002, DEBRA had supported the first-ever EB gene therapy clinical trial.

In just 10 years, science leapt forward - transforming hope into meaningful progress for the EB community. 💙

Rare disease research takes time - and sustainable funding.

For conditions like epidermolysis bullosa (EB), clinical trials can span years and cost millions, especially when testing whether existing NHS drugs can be re‑purposed to reduce pain, itch and scarring.

Thanks to gifts in Wills, DEBRA has funded 22 global research projects in the last five years, helping to advance treatments, improve care and move closer to potential cures. 🩵
