I know tax is not a subject to get the pulse racing (!) but we do need to talk about business rates. Since this government came in the shop’s business rates bill has increased by 275% (with further increases planned for the next few years). This picture shows the amount of extra books that need to be sold each month just to cover that increase (not including every other cost that has gone up). The i paper last weekend featured a fantastic article about Battle highlighting how great the town is including the shops on the high street. By buying a book from a small local business you will help to protect this and surely that is better than helping to fund sending a billionaire into space??
