💜 Reading together starts long before a child can read. 📚

One of my favourite parts of the day is snuggling up with my little one and sharing a story together. At just 8 months old, she's not interested in sitting still from beginning to end—and that's completely okay!

She loves touching the different textures, turning the pages and pointing at the colourful pictures in Usborne's Don't Tickle the Dinosaur. Every smile, giggle and little grab at the page is helping her build early language skills, curiosity and a love of books.

✨ Today's Reading Tip for Babies:

You don't have to read every single word.

Instead, follow your baby's lead:
🦖 Let them touch and explore the pages.
👀 Talk about the pictures they notice.
🎵 Change your voice, make the sounds and have fun together.
💛 Even just 5–10 minutes of shared reading each day helps build connection and supports their development.

Reading with babies isn't about finishing the book—it's about enjoying the experience together.

📚💛 **Reading Tip of the Day** 💛📚

One of the simplest ways to help your child build their comprehension skills is to **talk about the story as you read together**.

This is something I do all the time with my 3-year-old daughter when we're reading her favourite books. Rather than just reading the words, I like to pause and ask her questions about what's happening in the story.

Some of the questions I ask include:

💭 *Why do you think she looks sad?*

❤️ *Do you think they are being kind? Why?*

🤔 *What do you think will happen next?*

😊 *How do you think that made them feel?*

🗣️ *What would you do if you were there?*

These little conversations encourage children to think beyond the words on the page and help to develop:
✨ Comprehension skills
✨ Vocabulary
✨ Empathy and emotional understanding
✨ Confidence in expressing their ideas
✨ A deeper enjoyment of reading

The best part? There are no right or wrong answers. It's simply about encouraging your child to think, imagine and talk about the story.

Sometimes my daughter's answers surprise me—and they're often my favourite part of story time! 💛📖

I'm delighted to share that **Zora's Story Nook** will be attending the **NorthStar Advocacy SEND Summer Community Event** on **Saturday 8th August**, and I'd love to see you there!
