We took this little photo of some of our merry gang on February 18th - the day before I had my short notice hip replacement operation at the wonderful Bedford Hospital under consultant Sunil Santhapuri. We are so lucky to live in this town!
I'm recovering well, and hugely grateful for all the supportive messages. Hopefully I'll be back in the shop towards the end of March.
In the meantime I particularly want to thank my colleagues Liz (well, as you know, she's a bit more than a colleague!!) Holly and Jenny (pictured) as well as Cameron, James, Paul and Vania who have truly stepped up in my absence.
And to all of you, of course, who continue to support and visit the shop and buy books so we can keep the bills paid - a mighty thank you!

Well, here's a thing!
Until late yesterday, our £10 antiquarian bargain section was full - we've been topping it up all month as books have sold from it. Ditto the £20 rare book bargain section.
Then our lovely regular, *****, and I got chatting about a possible deal in the way that book lovers and book dealers do, and... well, the £20 and £10 antiquarian bargain shelves are now completely empty. 😮😮
BUT NOT FOR LONG!
My work is cut out today, finding fresh antiquarian bargains for you to peruse. 😀

It's bleak outside but what better way to spend the remaining week of January than finding and enjoying wonderful books at bargain prices?

Our legendary Bargain Book Zone always expands in January - this year it's almost out of control, with thousands of books marked at £1 or £2 in crates and on the shelves.

As you can see, we are open today until 4pm for a little bit of last minute shopping and festive fun, but we're also opening 11 - 4 on the days between Christmas and New Year that are traditionally assigned to walking off turkey or escaping overstaying relatives.

Every year a little bit of magic is sprinkled into our windows as Ruth Hogan creates a beautiful display to capture her latest novel.

This year it's The Light A Candle Society and Ruth will be talking about this wonderful book, set here in Bedford, as well as her writing in general - and signing books - a week tomorrow.

There are only a few places left to this free event - so please let us know quickly if you'd like to come along!

Delighted to say that I'll be at the wonderful Eagle Bookshop in Bedford on Saturday 1st November talking about my writing, and in particular my latest book, THE LIGHT A CANDLE SOCIETY which is set in Bedford. I'll also be answering questions and signing books. You can bring along copies that you've already bought, but my books will also be available to buy on the night. The event starts at 6.30pm and although it is free, places are limited so you will need to book tickets. I'll be posting details very soon, and you can also find out more on the bookshop's website.
