Wash & Care
Each blanket is handmade using 100% merino wool. Merino is not at all itchy and it's hypoallergenic so if you struggle with other wools, merino is the one for you! It's also water, stain and odour resistant so won't need washed as often. Spot clean if needed taking care not to rub the wool too vigorously.
Handwash in cool water and dry flat.

Oh merino, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways... Merino wool has so many amazing qualities. It’s gloriously soft, not at all itchy and hypoallergenic. It’s water, stain and odour resistant and flame retardant. It helps you regulate your body temperature. It’s naturally elastic so it holds its shape and it holds dye really well so it’s colourfast. Best of all it’s a natural fibre so it’s totally eco friendly. Lastly I have a happy sheep only policy so you know your knits come from sheep that are well looked after.

Wash & Care
Each cloth is handmade using 95% recycled cotton and 5% other materials. Machine wash at 30 degrees, shape while damp and dry flat.

Acrylic yarn is cheaper than natural yarns and easy to source. So why don’t I use it?

Ultimately it’s a plastic and so is made from fossil fuels and it sheds tiny fibres of plastic also known as microplastic. It’s not really clear yet the full extent of the dangers of microplastics but it has been shown to be harmful to small marine and freshwater animals. Also because it takes so long to breakdown it can move up the food chain.

When I was thinking about starting Meg & Joy Knits I didn’t want to cause any more of a burden on the planet and if I could to positively impact it. I’m not perfect, I definitely have clothes in my wardrobe that are made from plastic fibres but even seemingly small choices can make a difference. 🐑

For Meg and Joy Knits I only use sustainable sources for my materials and I make sure these come from ethical companies that treat their people and animals with dignity and respect. I also want to support local suppliers when I’m crafting my products, coronavirus has hit our local businesses hard and it’s important we all do our part to support them!
