The Funk Yard is for second-hand drums, percussion, and cymbals, and was set up by Irish Percussionist Stephen J. Stephen also provides other services on an ad hoc basis: covering drum cleaning, maintenance, restoration, and tuning, sourcing drum parts, drumming tips, and occasional lessons. He predominantly plays drum set, cajon, and bodhran.

These hats are loud, aggressive, and behave like they were forged in a volcano by someone who hates subtlety. Open them up and they’ll cut through a mix like they’re trying to start a bar fight with the headliner band. Close them and you get a chick sound so sharp it could slice bread.

The logos are a bit faded, but they're still clearly marked and ready to ruin your neighbour's day.

My Current Snare Drum Collection: not for sale!

14" X 7 Stanbridge Custom, built for me by drum builder Pete Stanbridge in Newfoundland.

I still weep when I remember how much I paid for it, but it's been my workhorse for around 15 years. The shell is Black Walnut and the hoops are White Oak. Basically, it's the snare that thinks it’s a celebrity. This thing has more self‑esteem than half the musicians in Belfast. It sounds incredible, but only because it knows it’s expensive. If this snare had legs, it would walk into a room and expect applause.

14" X 6" Pearl Masters Custom - Maple

The “I’m not like other snares, I’m professional” drum. This thing is so sensible it probably files its own taxes. It’s the one you bring to a gig when you want zero drama. It copes with anything and everything, and judges every other snare you own.

14" X 5" Pearl Chad Smith Signature Steel

This snare doesn’t just project - it shouts. It’s basically a metal dustbin with a superiority complex. Hit it once and it’ll cut through the mix, the wall, the neighbour’s wall, and the neighbour’s marriage. It’s not a snare. It’s a weapon. Ghost notes are a joy to play on this thing, absolutely effortless. I tend to use it these days only for jam sessions. I'm pretty sure it's mad at me.

14" X 5.5 Premier Spirit of Maiden - Birch

This snare wakes up every morning and chooses violence. It’s the drum equivalent of a teenager who only listens to Iron Maiden and refuses to tidy their room. It doesn’t do subtle. It doesn’t do gentle. It Runs to the Hills and Plays with Madness. I have it more as a collector's piece.

FOR SALE: 20" Zildjian ZXT Medium Ride, AKA: The Neighbour Awakener 3000

This isn't a dark, smoky jazz cymbal for sipping espresso in a lounge. This thing is BRIGHT. It cuts through loud guitars like a hot knife through your annoying guitarist's chest.

The stick definition is cleaner than a vicar's internet history when he's having the parishioners round for tea.

Hit the bell, and it delivers a piercing "PING" so sharp it will clear your sinuses and wake up neighbours across the street. Hit it with the shoulder of the stick and you'll summon ships up Belfast Lough.

Best Uses: Rock, punk, or metal drummers who need to be heard over a wall of amps. It's a great cymbal for playing live.

Condition: Good used condition. No cracks, keyholing, or other structural damage. The logos are starting to fade because it has actually been loved and played, but you can still clearly read it. It just has that "I actually practice" vintage mojo look now.
