☕️🌍 LOCAL BUSINESS COLLAB: COFFEE, KIDS & CLIMATE AWARENESS

Two Northern Ireland home-grown brands have joined forces for a colourful back-to-school campaign with an important message. 💚

Ground Espresso Bars has partnered with local children’s book series The Weatherbies for a special two-week collaboration across 12 NI stores, helping introduce young children to climate change, recycling and caring for the planet in a fun and accessible way.

The partnership also highlights Ground’s own sustainability initiatives, including offering customers 50p off when they bring a reusable cup, as well as giving away used coffee grounds for customers to take home and use as nutrient-rich garden compost. 🌱☕️

It’s a great example of two local businesses working together to make sustainability part of the back-to-school conversation.

The Weatherbies collaboration is running at participating Ground Espresso Bars across Northern Ireland for the next two weeks.

Stormont wants a legal phone ban in NI schools. Pouches on from the first bell to the last.

Nine schools already tried it. More than 8,000 pupils. Teachers said the yard started looking like a yard again. Friends’ School in Lisburn: once you go phone-free, almost nobody goes back.

Here’s the bit nobody wants. A quieter corridor is not a better set of results. A locked pouch from 9 to 3.30 does not fix a 1am scroll. Are we helping young people, or just hiding the problem till home time?

🪙 More than 10,000 coins have been painstakingly removed from the Giant’s Causeway after years of visitors wedging them between its iconic basalt columns.

The 20kg haul wasn’t simply unsightly—the metal was rusting, expanding and placing pressure on the ancient rock, while leaving orange stains across the stone.

Specialist stonemason Nathan Morrow carefully extracted the coins using pliers and specialist tools, with some taking more than 20 minutes to remove.

The National Trust is now urging visitors to admire this extraordinary World Heritage Site without leaving coins behind. If you’re feeling generous, they suggest placing your change in the charity box instead! 🌊

The recovered coins could now be transformed into an exhibition highlighting the damage the practice can cause.

✨ A little princess magic at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children 👑💕

Young patients Angel Da Costa Gama and Cara Taggart enjoyed a very special visit from The Princess Proms cast, who spent time chatting with children and their families, playing games and singing songs. 🎶

The heartwarming visit was organised by Little Heroes through its partnership with Waterfront Hall and Ulster Hall, bringing the magic of the show directly to children and young people receiving care.

Performers Ruth Betteridge, Hannah Morcos and Charlotte Kennedy were joined by Little Heroes Chief Executive Mary McCall and Rob McConnell, Chief Executive of ICC Belfast, Waterfront Hall and Ulster Hall.

The Princess Proms went on to perform two sold-out shows at Waterfront Hall. 👏✨
