The Belper Oxfam Books and Music Shop is based at the top of the award winning King Street. The historic Derbyshire town of Belper is part of the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site. The shop is a short walk away from the market place which is where there is free parking at the Coppice. The shop is light and spacious, the perfect place to browse our wide and constantly changing range of books, post

cards, CDs, DVDs, vinyl, sheet music and video games. We are always delighted to accept donations of quality undamaged items that you no longer want. Our shop team is ready to help in anyway possible so do not hesitate to ask us any questions you may have.

The story goes, a few years ago now, a person came in and they found a couple of bits to buy. When they came to pay they explained they had to have some "Dutch courage" just to come in.

Basically they had been told by a family member that if they came in, they wouldn't be welcome as they are gay. We explained what their family member said was so wrong and it couldn't be further from the ttruth. Not only as a charity, but as a team we want to be inclusive.

After reassuring them that they are more than welcome, once they knew they were in a safe space, they relaxed and hugged us multiple times and thanked us for putting them at ease.

They left smiling, laughing and hugged us one last time. They would visit a few more times after that, but it has been a long time. It would be nice to know how they are doing.
