We’re pleased to share that Distinct Gaming are working with the New Bath Hotel in Matlock Bath to deliver a “Board Games Retreat” over the weekend of 22nd to 24th January. As well as a residential offering there will be day tickets available if anyone fancies spending the day playing games with like-minded people in the pleasant surroundings of the Hotel. The DG team will be on hand for Board Games advice and assistance. We will also be running some group games like Blood on the Clocktower. For bookings please contact the hotel directly. We hope that some of you will join us for what promises to be a great weekend!

You’ve (maybe) seen me painting them, now the Crusader army that I have been working on for about 3 years is making its debut on the table! This Saturday (19th September) is Historical Wargames Day and we are running the Battle of Hattin 1187. This was a pivotal battle in the struggle for the “Holy Land” between the Crusader states and the Ayyubid Sultan of Egypt, Saladin. The battle will start around 10:30. All welcome to join in, no prior knowledge, experience or equipment is necessary.

Marc’s Friday painting update!

Quite an eclectic mix of stuff to share with you all this week!

I finished Mrs Doyle and Dougal. The whole cast is now ready for the next 7TV day. Be sure to check them out - it’s 17th October if anyone is wondering 😉.

I also finished the last 2 Wookies from the Star Wars Legion rebel starter set. As I indicated last week that’s the whole army done - feels good to tick something off!

Also this week, some more characters for 7TV. These are “paranormal investigators” - who you gonna call?

Finally there are a couple of figures from Crooked Dice’s Gothic Horror range. These are the Hurdy Gurdy man and the Miller’s wife. I think that I might have been slightly over-ambitious with these - particularly my attempt to paint the Hurdy Gurdy man’s waistcoat. I think it’s showing up the limitations of my painting ability! I’m half tempted to paint over it? Trouble is I’m not sure I could do it any better…….

Next week probably some more random 7TV stuff but I also need to get back to some of my big projects.

Marc’s Friday painting update!

I went off on a bit of a tangent this week and painted Father Ted’s house! I say painted but a big chunk of the time I spent on this was glueing it together (whilst trying to avoid glueing it to the table) and messing around with prints for the roofing slates. I realise that some might say this was a bit of a cop out, but I don’t think I have the skills to paint a roof that actually looks like a roof! I found some printed tile sheets on eBay and had great fun cutting them to size and sticking them to the building. And I only managed to get one piece upside down 🙃!

Not really sure what I am going to do with this now - I guess the Island Priests can make an appearance at the next 7TV day? I have Dougal and Mrs Doyle to paint next week.

Speaking of “I’m not really sure what I am going to do with this now”, I would also like to present to you this random dragon! I picked this up at UKGE this year for no other reason than it looked cool. Now I have painted it and I still think it looks cool.

I did paint something useful this week as well - 4 out of the 6 Wookies. Just 2 more and the Rebel starter army is done. Feels good to be able to tick something off! Just don’t mention the redcoats!

Marc’s Friday painting update

Plenty to share this week as the cooler weather has encouraged a bit of progress

I finished the last rebel commando for the Star Wars Legion starter army. The Wookies are the final models and I have built these as well so should get some paint on them in the next couple of weeks.

I also painted 4 more Tomb Kings cavalry models. These are the remaining ones with spear and shield - there are 8 archers to go. They include a standard bearer, which is always fun to paint as there’s a bit more detail to pick out.

Also this week I finished a couple of Crooked Dice “Island Priests”, who I am sure you recognise. They are not small just far away!

Finally I also finished off the last 2 of the batch of Redcoats (only one photo). That’s 16 out of 48. I’m starting to lose the will with these - I might need a break!

That’s 9 models this week - best for a while. I am starting to get a bit of a basing backlog though……
