Pleasant were the days...

A tiny sleeping doll tucked inside an antique French pewter casket, wrapped in handmade linens like a treasured memory. I love creating these little scenes that feel as though they've been discovered in the back of a forgotten drawer, carrying stories that nobody quite remembers. 🤍

Sometimes the smallest things hold the biggest sense of nostalgia.

Meet the newest little residents of Dusty Rose…

These two vintage dolls have now taken up permanent residence in an old wooden box, surrounded by victorian handwritten papers, faded photographs, dried flowers and their own little tapestry seats.
Just look at those faces. And the side eye 👀

Perhaps some things are only lost until somebody finds them again.

The Parlour Players have arrived…

I've been making these strange little characters from a collection of old wooden tent pegs I found and knew I wanted to turn them into something completely different.

So, meet the first five Parlour Players 🥀
🎪 No. 01 • The Merry Fool
🎀 No. 02 • Mademoiselle Pearl
🃏 No. 03 • The Jester
🌿 No. 04 • The Green Lady
🎭 No. 05 • The Pierrot

Each one has been made and painted by hand, and each is completely one of a kind. I've kept all the age and imperfections of the original wooden pegs because, for me, that's half the beauty of making something new from something that's already had a life.

I think The Green Lady might be my favourite… although I keep changing my mind.

Someone kept this. 🖤

At first glance it's a beautiful Victorian locket, believed to date from around the 1870s–1880s, with a Bacchante surrounded by grapes and vine leaves moulded into the front.
And then you open it...
Inside... is human hair. Carefully worked into curls and loops and still sitting there more than a century later.

Hair like this could have been kept in mourning for someone who had died, but it was also exchanged between lovers, friends and family as something deeply personal.

We don't know whose hair this was. Or who carried it.
That's the bit I love about old things. Sometimes the object survives, but the story doesn't.

A little bit of old homemade shell art 🐚

I found this wonderful old handmade frame, made from the simplest cardboard base and absolutely covered in hundreds of tiny shells.

It's definitely not a grand or professionally made piece, and that's exactly what I love about it. Someone has sat and carefully placed all of these shells, filling practically every little gap.

It came to me without a photograph, so I've added an old portrait from my collection and backed it with a fragment of an old London map. I love giving these forgotten pieces another life while keeping all the age and wonkiness that made me pick them up in the first place.

The original shellwork is beautifully imperfect, with missing and chipped shells amongst all those tiny spirals and larger shells.

Whoever made the frame is long forgotten, but their handiwork is still here. 🐚🖤

Feeling the history 🖤

I love being able to touch something that was made and used by someone over 150 years ago.

This huge 19th century French textile printing block is stamped MAILLAUT A PARIS on the back and would once have been used to print designs onto fabric.

It’s completely hand carved, with the most amazing figure, flowers, scrolls and tiny details. On the back it still has its original handles, old handwritten markings and the number 24402.

What makes this one even more special is that Maillaut printing blocks are held in museum textile collections today, so it feels slightly surreal having one here in my hands. It’s not just a beautiful old object, it’s a surviving piece of textile history.

I always wonder who held things like this, where it was used and what fabrics were actually printed with it.

The cracks, wear and missing pieces just add to it for me. All little traces of its working life.

Definitely one of those finds that feels like it belongs in a museum as much as it does in an antique collection.

Mirrors hold more than reflections; they keep little fragments of everyone who has stood before them.

This beautiful little arched mirror, with its warm honey-coloured inlay and velvet backing, has such a gentle, romantic feel to it. I can't help but wonder where it once hung and whose face it reflected over the years.
The aged tones, the tiny imperfections, the soft glow of the frame... it's exactly the kind of piece that makes a house feel collected rather than decorated.
A small treasure with a very long story. 🤍✨

Oh! cease not, to my list'ning ear..." 🤍

A tiny vintage doll, tucked into her little keepsake box beside a handmade quilt and a faded scrap of poetry.

These are the pieces I love most—the ones that feel as though they've stepped straight out of a forgotten nursery or the pages of an old storybook.

I imagine she was once someone's treasure, carefully tucked away and kept safe all these years. Now she's ready for a new chapter.
