Writing this post with trembling fingers because the joy is hard to contain.

As I was having a conversation with two of my favourite customers this week from behind a mountain of boxes to open, I got a delivery of even more boxes. One of them stood out and I squealed, as I knew immediately what it was!

Some of you might know that The Book Loft will be included in Marisa Giannasi’s beautiful upcoming book, A Miscellany of British Bookshops, which celebrates over 100 of the UK’s most beloved bookshops.💙 Marisa visited the bookshop in the summer to create this gorgeous watercolour illustration and to find out more about our journey & what makes this space feel so special for you, our customers. I’ve been following Marisa’s work for a long time, so for the little bookshop to be included in this book before even reaching our 1-year anniversary feels truly surreal.

Go and follow the legendary Marisa Giannasi and keep an eye out for more reveals! The book is out on 3 June 2027 with Penguin Random House and you can pre-order it with your local indie bookshop. We know a few good ones.🌝

The Book Loft is looking for a part-time bookseller to join our team. We are searching for a passionate reader who loves recommending books, staying on top of newest releases, helping grandparents find the perfect gift for their grandchildren and is excited to unbox a constant wave of book orders! Our bookseller will be responsible of keeping the bookshop tidy, processing sales, restocking shelves and replying to customer emails.

⏰ Hours:
Sunday: 10-4
Monday: 9-5
➡️ 14h/week

💷 £13/hour

The bookshop organises its own author events and more hours can be added for participation at these events, when desired by you & if available.😊 This includes the week of the Berwick Literary Festival, which takes place every year in October. Have you checked out the Berwick Literary Festival programme for 2026 yet? It looks incredible and you could be there!
As books usually need to be transported to the venue for each event, having a driving license will be an advantage when applying, but it’s not essential.

The first hire will be key to the bookshop’s development. 📈We need someone who is comfortable being part-time to begin with, and can see themselves becoming a full time team member & taking on more responsibility as the bookshop continues to grow.

❗️The days of Sunday - Monday are non-negotiable for the rest of 2026, but can make adjustments starting January 2027.

And neither will we. Huge thank you to Amanda Block and Jackie Kaines Lang for offering us such a vibrant conversation last week. We discussed Amanda’s latest novel, a ghostly mystery set in a coastal town with a rich history, and we got a glimpse into her creative process and next projects.

Thank you to all who joined us and to our friends at The Straw Yard for being fantastic hosts once again.
