One of the designs our Custom Nameplate Studio gets the most enquiries about is the South Eastern & Chatham Railway locomotive number plate. Fortunately we've been able to source a scale drawing of the plate and numerals so we can now offer a fully customisable etch in a selection of scales. We have variants for Ashford and Longhedge works, and you can specify a set of 3 plates if you need one for your loco tender - some carried an extra number here!

As a bonus we've also added the plainer SE&CR ownership plate that appeared on cab sides around the WW1 era.

Industrial loco fans modelling in 009 and 00 gauge are spoilt for choice today as Rapido Trains UK announces multiple new tooling projects – plus there's another Light Railway Stores exclusive in the mix.

First up we have the Fowler "Resilient" diesel loco in 009. Introduced in the 1930s as diesel engine technology was becoming suitable for locomotive use, the 4 wheel Resilient design found homes with industrial clients including reservoir construction and cement works. Perhaps the most famous of this design is "Peldon" which survives today at the Amberley Museum.

Adding to this range in 009, we also present an exclusive GWR livery version to complement our Sirdar and Cranmore steam locos.

Then, for those of a wider gauge inclination, there is also the Sentinel steam shunter for 00 in two body styles - pre- and post-WW2. These unique looking locos are also widely represented in preservation – in fact if you're near Chatham Dockyard you can see the earlier style "Ann" running there this weekend!

Since the launch of our 009 All-Purpose Wagons, many of you have asked if we could produce some examples carrying the livery of Porthmadog's famous Purple Moose Brewery.

Three amoose-ing versions are available to pre-order: Cylindrical Tank Wagon, Dropside Open Wagon and Round-Ended Flat Wagon (with crate of beer).

If you like the look of the chunky larger tank variant of Rapido Trains UK's 009 Peckett loco, but aren't a Great Western modeller, don't forget there are two more livery options in the main range. Presented in Peckett "standard" green and a L&YR-inspired lined black, these models will be the perfect alternative – or accompaniment – to the regular Cranmore class 0-4-0ST.

The order book is closing for all the main range Peckett models on August 31st, we'll only be carrying limited extra stock so we strongly recommend pre-ordering to avoid missing out.

Did you know that you can add hand-finished weathering to selected pre-ordered models at Light Railway Stores? These Rapido Trains UK Sirdars have just been through the workshop at James Hilton Custom Model Railways, receiving a subtle finish which includes a wash to the underframe, footplate, tank tops and buffer beams and airbrushed dirt on the roof, top of the boiler and smokebox. Etched plates have also been fitted, including custom names where required.

James is also happy to consult on bespoke, personalised weathering and detailing if you want to go further.

We're going again!

The Peckett & Sons "Cranmore" 0-4-0ST was Rapido's second 009 loco announcement, made back in April at Narrow Gauge South. The original class of locos, exemplified by the named Gamecock, was a small 2' gauge saddle tank with 7"x10" cylinders. Peckett was known for a catalogue of standard designs which could be readily supplied to customers, but variation was possible and here at LRS we believe variety is the spice of life.

For our next exclusive livery project, we're excited to have worked with Rapido Trains UK to create a prototypically literate what-if variant of the "Cranmore" with an extended, full-length saddle tank that references other small Pecketts such as the "Jurassic" class and even some hints of classic 009 kit-bash modelling.

Following the theme of our freelance Llanfyllin & Llangynog Light Railway concept, GWR Nº 837 wears an older style of livery with the legend GREAT WESTERN picked out in shaded yellow lettering and a black front face to the saddle tank. The traditional copper capped chimney and boiler furniture completes the look. We believe this might be an even more attractive loco than the already fabulous "Sirdar", and we hope you'll agree!

Our exclusive GWR livery Rapido Trains UK wagons are starting to arrive in the wild, and here's a great shot from our customer Kevin on his super 009 layout. The loco is something of a Narrow Planet deep cut – a Beyer-Peacock inspired model on the old Minitrains F&C chassis that kicked off our Great Western narrow gauge concept. How about an update for the new Sirdar mechanism?

We're going to be taking a short summer holiday next week - order shipments will resume from Monday 20th July.

If you wanted to give your loco crew some weather protection but didn't want to spend a lot of money, Manning-Wardle had the answer for you. Now available as an add-on for the superb Rapido Trains UK L class 0-6-0ST, this distinctive and minimal wrap-over cab sheet designed by James Hilton Custom Model Railways is a direct replacement for the basic weatherboard provided on some variants of the model.

Soldered assembly of the etched brass parts is recommended, but it is possible to glue together after carefully forming the curves. Full instructions are provided.
