This short video was filmed at the Lowender Perran Festival, Cornwall, and held that year in Newquay, just before Covid. The festival celebrates the culture of the five Celtic Nations, Cornwall, Brittany, Ireland, Wales, and the Isle of Man.

Not including yours truly freewheeling on the left, it features three very fine whistle players over from Co. Kerry, Ireland. Three of the instruments being played are the new ‘Mui Cosht’ whistle. Sitting on the far right is player and maker of the renowned ‘Killarney Whistle’, Padraig Buckley playing his own instrument. All were grand company as well as being outstanding players, and I thank them all for that. Thanks also to Robert for capturing it.

Introducing the new ‘MUI COSHT’ whistle.

To celebrate completing 25 years of whistle making, we are pleased to announce a new and very different addition to the range which we are calling the ’ MUI COSHT’ (Literal meaning ‘Mouth Stick’ in the Romany language to describe a ‘Whistle’).

This soprano whistle is only available in the key of ‘D’, and is hand produced and signed by Tony Dixon on the underside, together with an identifying number.
This new whistle has been in development over several years, and is something of a departure from our familiar range. This new whistle has an aluminium body with tuneable head of a flowing design which has a sleek unique curved profile, comfortable to hold and easy on the eye and ear.

The head incorporates a boxwood insert which forms the windway, and is secured in place by a small stainless steel screw on the underside of the head. This is a deliberate ‘nod’ to the material used in many historic woodwind musical instruments, and incorporated here into a modern design.

Although each whistle is numbered, it is not a limited edition as such. It is limited, however, in that it is not our intension to make these in large numbers, due to their individual ‘back to the bench’ construction, and they will only be available through us.

Slightly louder than our other instruments in this key, it has a bright tone without being shrill.

This instrument is supplied with a soft case.

DX032D THREE PART ACETAL D WHISTLE

This instrument is a direct descendant of the wooden Whistle that the company designed and made many years ago. This low maintenance Acetal (Delrin) Whistle is made to this same specification. The Whistle is designed along the same principal as the simple systems Whistles being made of three separate sections which allows for some degree of alteration to hole alignment to help with comfortable playing.

Low maintenance traditional cork joints make for positive assembly, the application of cork grease of similar will be necessary periodically to maintain a good seal. The cork joints and brass end rings make for a classy feeling whistle with a nod to traditional instruments.
