www.saxongateflowers.co.uk I have been a gardener as long as I can remember and have grown flowers on my allotment in Biggleswade for over 15 years. Growing plants from seed and cuttings, seeing them thrive and sharing the joy they give people is

what I love. The opportunity to grow cut flowers on a new plot of land at Saxon Gate Flowers enables me to grow a wide range of beautiful blooms in an environmentally responsible way. Our flowers are grown locally without chemicals & air miles. Our flowers are grown without using peat so avoiding damaging fragile eco systems. Flowers grown by Saxon Gate Flowers are produced with the environment and nature in mind.

This is the first of this year's dahlia seedlings to flower and is a real beauty.
The joy of growing dahlias from seed is that you never know what you're going to get, because the flowers were pollinated by bees last year.
We'll be exploring this and much more on our Dahlia Growing Workshop on Saturday 5th September, 2pm-4pm.
You'll see our stunning field of dahlias at their peak, learn about the different ways to grow them and leave with some blooms and a detailed worksheet.

It's been a fantastic Summer for butterflies, bees and pollinators on our flower patch. I can identify most of the common butterfly species but struggle with the smaller ones.

So it was wonderful to welcome Flo Pascoe back a few weeks ago with her expertise in wildlife and a special camera. The lavender plants were alive with butterflies and bees that morning.

In just a few hours she found 11 different butterflies:
Painted Lady (bottom middle photo)
Green-veined White (bottom right)
Red Admiral (bottom left)
Common Blue (top right)
Small Copper (top middle)
Brown Argus (middle right)
Gatekeeper (middle left)
Large White
Small White
Meadow Brown
Small Skipper

Flo also found a Wasp Spider amongst the lavender.

I have never used any pesticides or herbicides here and deliberately leave wilder areas so it is incredibly satisfying to know that our flowers are supporting biodiversity.

This is the way most enquiries start.

So .... I ask.... what are you looking for, any particular colours, when do you need them etc etc etc..? Can you send a picture of what you're looking for? ...

This year it has been a challenge predicting anything as a flower grower but we still have flowers available, just not as many as normal.

DAHLIA GROWING WORKSHOP - Saturday 5th September 2026, 2pm-4pm

Visit our stunning field of dahlias when they are at their peak and learn how to grow them yourself.

We specialise in growing dahlias for cut flowers - in this workshop we will share the various ways to grow and care for dahlias to get the best out of these beautiful flowers.

You will see the best varieties for cutting in full bloom and take home some flowers as well as a detailed worksheet.

We won....... not the football but first prize in the business category of the inaugural Biggleswade in Bloom competition!
The event was organised brilliantly by Biggleswade Town Council Biggleswade Town Council and attracted 30 entries from residents, community groups and businesses in the town. It was great to see everyone in the Market Square today for the awards ceremony.
Thanks to everyone involved ... looking forward to 2027..

Celebrate British Flowers Week by joining us on Saturday 13th June 2026, 9.30am-12.30pm to find out how we grow our beautiful flowers.

We'll be flinging open our gates to visitors and look forward to showing you around. There will be guided tours of the flower patch on the hour, throughout the morning.

Flowers from the Farm at Chelsea Flower Show 2026

I often think that seeing Flowers from the Farm win a Gold medal at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2018 planted an idea that came to fruition when I started Saxon Gate Flowers in 2020.
Flowers from the Farm is the UK trade association for cut-flower growers representing over 1,000 members nationwide.

So one of the first things I did when I started growing was to join Flowers from the Farm. The support and advice from other like-minded flower growers has been invaluable.

Scroll forward to 2026 and Flowers from the Farm is taking a miniature flower farm to Chelsea this week (19-23 May). The mini flower farm will be a living showcase of flowers growing in May and the spectacular floristry that can be created from them.

I'm incredibly excited to have won a place in the members ballot and will be an Ambassador on the FftF stand in the Grand Pavilion on Tuesday 19th May! It's an amazing opportunity to be part of such an iconic gardening show.

What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning....
It was our Spring Flowers Workshop today and I really enjoyed sharing our flower patch and flowers with three generations of lovely ladies.
The hand-tied bouquets that they made were amazing too!
