TMB Day 3 Update

A very wet day for Lois and Matty yesterday. They decided to keep walking but got completely soaked, and with conditions too stormy to camp high, they dropped down to Les Chapieux for the night.

NORTENT RESTOCK!

Good news if you’ve been waiting for more Nortent, a tent made for you tents!

The Varde 1, pictured here looking rather good in our new photography studio, has arrived, along with the Varde 2.

We’ve also got the 4-season Ly 1, Ly 2 and Ly 3, plus the 4-season Vern 2 and Vern 3, all available now.

Lois and Matty from team UOG are now in Chamonix, ready to set off on the world-famous Tour du Mont Blanc!

We’ll be taking a closer look at Lois’s kit tomorrow, but first, here’s what Matty has packed for the 103-mile trek around Europe’s highest peak.

This one is for the eagle-eyed among you, A fair bit of Matty’s kit isn’t actually launching until next year, so consider this a little sneak peek. Don’t worry, we’ll have his full kit list up soon.

From the gear we can talk about, a few highlights for me are the 7Mesh Guardian Air Jacket, Sambob fleece and Mountain Equipment Xenith Hooded Jacket.

New Zealand brand, Aarn Packs, take a completely different approach to carrying weight.

Most of their packs feature their signature Balance Pocket system, which moves part of the load from behind you to the front of your hips, helping bring the overall load closer to your centre of gravity and reducing the leverage that can pull you forward.

The Balance Pockets attach directly to the hip belt via a lightweight wireframe, while their connection to the shoulder straps slides freely, meaning the weight is transferred through the hip belt rather than hanging from your shoulders. The two separate front pockets also leave a gap in the middle, so you can still see your feet on rough terrain.

Then there’s the U-Flow harness. It uses a pivoting connection and independent movement between the shoulder harness and hip belt, allowing you to twist, bend and move naturally while keeping the pack stable against your back.

It might look like a strange-looking system until you understand the engineering behind it, and the benefits!
