I don’t plan this to become a UV printing page, but having played more with my new one this week I’m a bit obsessed! Still some tweaking to be done, but the results definitely surpass what I can achieve with decals personally!

The curved barrel of the tanker definitely presents a challenge, with distortion at the extremes, and the white ink showing below the black, but I’ll try and mitigate that!

The 37 and the Evero were done entirely on the printer; everything else was painted, with lettering applied via the printer.

New toy day! 🥳

I have bought a UV printer. Think inkjet printer that’ll print on three dimensional objects. Like toy trains. Tested with an (N gauge) container I’d previously painted. I’m very encouraged by this, hoping to essentially eliminate decals from my workflow. May mean I can offer finished items too. Much fun to be had…

I think I’ve teased the TT:120 Drax biomass wagons about 5 times, but they’re genuinely close now, just some final detailing and coupling niggles to work out. Initial release to cover all 4 of the new livery variants. Yes this is only 3 unique ones as I grabbed a duplicate 🤦🏻‍♂️

Still a screaming gap in the N gauge range is a proper FFA/FGA container wagon; a mainstay of the network for 30 years. When a friend asked for a conversion kit for the Farish Freightliner flat I was happy to oblige (and it only took me a year 😬)! The kit comprises a pair of buffer beams with properly sized 22” Oleo buffers and extended rapido couplings to avoid buffer lock, enough to convert a pair of ‘outer’ wagons. I’m still here! It’s been a long while, I’ve actually been building a layout, turns out it’s quite fun. 🚂 🚂 Plenty of other projects going on as well though - here a quick conversion kit for the old Farish container flats to make them closer to the FFA/FGA, given Bachmann seem to be ignoring their shrink ray!

Kit comprises a pair of buffer beams and longer shank rapido couplings to create outer wagons. Forgive the state of my desk surface!

It’s been a decal sort of a week! Mainly because I always put them off for ages until I have a pile of projects! There may be one more to come in the next few days. Maybe. OHLE, overhead wires, catenary, knitting, whatever you call it, it’s an inescapable feature of the modern railway. It also varies massively, with different styles of portal being used in different locations as required. I’ve been working on these N gauge portals for a while, and pleased to have 6 different types, with three different styles of registration arm. These are all based on mk1 equipment, seen on various parts of the West Coast Main Line. However similar styles are seen on virtually all electrified lines all over the country.

Styles are:

- lightweight portals with either lattice or girder legs
- cantilever spans
- I-beam girder style
- heavyweight lattice
- ‘hexagon’ girder style

These are all available in a range of widths to suit, and with three types of registration arm: standard inverted, a-frame and lightweight. All portals have space for a 3mm magnet in the base to retain it.

Another TT:120 wagon has been on the bench too, the more I work on this ‘middle’ scale the more I like it, I must say! These PCA cement tankers were built in the early 80s, and still just about cling on today! A simple rescale from N gauge in response to an ask via eBay! Hoping to work through the artwork and get these live quickly.

How’s it July already?! Been much too long since I updated on anything; I’ve been building a layout myself, turns out it’s quite cathartic!

That said, still badgering away on a few projects, happy to help out with some point rodding stools for Rob Elliott’s stunning Lostwithiel N gauge layout.

They’re only tiny, but the effect is great! Generally happy to squeeze in little projects like this if there are little detail bits you need for your layout, just drop me a PM!
