Points running straight down the middle of a galley 👌

Herringbone running clean down every step 👌

Berber carpet with a two tone tape, in at Minworth.

The weave has to stay square on each tread and pick up again on the one below, so it reads as one line from the top of the stairs. Cut tight against the panelling with no gap showing on the string side.

A tight berber loop takes stair traffic and holds its shape on the nosings.

Planks running through the hall with the joins staggered, then cut tight to the oak upright and along the panelled return. Two different timbers meeting the floor there, and neither has a gap.

Clean lines, straight run 👌

Sheringham Sandstone, a berber wool carpet, in at Minworth.

A loop pile has to be pulled tight over every nosing or the loops open up on the edge of the tread and you see it from the bottom of the stairs. Wall to wall on a boxed-in flight like this means no margin to hide behind either.

Wool berber takes the traffic of a staircase and holds its shape on the nosings, which is where a softer pile flattens first.

Herringbone that carries the whole room 👌

Espresso Oak Heritage herringbone, engineered wood, in at Minworth.

Awkward floor to set out. Bay at one end, hearth cut into the middle, and the points still land square across the lot. All decided on the centre line before the first block went down.

Engineered boards hold their shape better than solid wood in a room with a stove in it.
