One of the most common questions I get asked 👀

How many listings do you need for a successful Etsy shop?

And I’m going to be honest with you, i think it’s a bit of an excuse 😅

Because if I turn around and say 1000, which is roughly the general rule of thumb. . . you’re going to look at me, say absolutely not, and close the app 😆 I know because I probably would have done the same thing

But here’s the thing — I have less than 400 listings 😭

Less than 400. And I profit every month. So what does that tell you? 🗣️

It tells you that the number is not the point. The point is just opening the shop and growing as you go 💪🏼

You are not going to hit 400 listings before you open. You are going to open, make some listings, make some more, and slowly get there without even really noticing 😌

I would be a complete hypocrite if I stood here and told you that you need a thousand listings before you start, because I don’t have them and the money is still coming in every month 💰

Stop using the number as a reason not to begin 👀

Open the shop. Add to it. Keep going. That’s genuinely it

If you are waiting for your Etsy shop to be perfect before you launch it 👀

Please stop 😅

I have been exactly where you are right now 😭 Fiddling with the banner. Redoing the logo. Convincing myself that nobody will take the shop seriously until it looks just right 🥱

Nobody is looking at your banner like that 😆 I promise you. The people buying prints are looking at the prints 🖼️

My banner has been a bit questionable for a while now and the sales still come in 💰

Turns out customers care significantly less about your shop aesthetics than you do 😌

Done is so much better than perfect 🗣️

A launched shop with an average banner is making money. A perfect shop that doesn’t exist yet is making nothing 0️⃣

The logo can be tweaked. The banner can be updated. None of that matters until there are actual products for people to buy 💪🏼

So launch the slightly imperfect shop. Fix it as you go. That is genuinely what everyone is doing behind the scenes 😅

Your first 10 listings are probably the least important ones you’ll ever make 👀

And I mean that in the best possible way 😅

They are not going to be your best work. They are not going to be perfectly curated 😂

Some of them you will look back on and cringe a little 😆 That is completely normal and completely fine 👍

Because the point of the first 10 is not to go viral 🗣️ The point is to get the shop open and get something live 🖼️

Once your listings are out there Etsy starts doing the work for you 😌

You can see what people are clicking on, what’s getting a response, what’s being ignored . . .

And that information is genuinely priceless when it comes to knowing what to make next 💰

You also start to figure out what you actually enjoy making 💪🏼
Which matters more than people think, because you’re going to be making a lot of them!

None of that data exists until the shop is live 😭 You cannot learn from a shop that isn’t open

You cannot improve listings that don’t exist yet

So the first 10 are not about perfection. They’re about getting you to the point where the real learning can start 👀

The most important thing right now is just to fill that shop 🌟

Yes your shop will be new.

Yes you won’t have a thousand listings. That is fine 💪🏼 A new shop in Q4 is still a shop in Q4 — and even a handful of listings can catch sales when millions of people are actively spending money on Etsy 🤩

You can learn as you go. You can add listings as you go. But you cannot get this Q4 back if you sit it out waiting to feel ready 👀

January will come and the people who started now will have sales, experience, and a shop that’s already growing 😌

I think it’s fair to say Summer is officially over, don’t you? 😔

October, November, December are the biggest months on Etsy and they are coming 🗣️

So if you have been a bit relaxed about it over summer . . . SAME, no judgement 😅

But now is genuinely the time to lock in. The people who are building their shops right now are the ones who are going to wake up in December to their best ever months 😭

An hour a day from now until Christmas is so much more than it sounds 💪🏼 That is listings, that is designs, that is a shop that is actually ready when the wave hits

We have reached over 10,000 members in our PrintShrimp Skool community 🥳

Another huge milestone, and we genuinely can’t believe how far we’ve come in the last 2 years.

Our mission was always simple, but creating customers along the way has been the most fun part. Teach someone how to build a poster shop properly, and they don’t need converting. They just need a place to start.

That realisation is exactly what led us to build our free Skool community: a place for anyone to learn how to build their own poster shop from scratch, no gatekeeping.

What started as a handful of people (brave enough to give us a try), a website that looked like it was thrown together in an afternoon (it was), and us copy and pasting orders between emails, has now grown into a community of 10,000+ people, who we’ve helped build something of their own.

We’ve also grown into a team of 5 along the way. . . which is wild, consisting of Tom Beeston Carlos and .beeston ⚡️

Doing this alongside good friends, and now family too, is something we will never take for granted.

On top of that, we’ve been busy building. We recently launched framed prints and our bulk listing tool, and the feedback has genuinely made our week (multiple times over).

Giving our sellers more ways to level up their shops, and watching people actually use them to grow, is exactly why we do this. We’re so pleased with how it’s been received, and we’re just as excited about what’s coming next.

But none of this happens without you. So, THANK YOU to everyone who’s joined, left feedback, asked a question, or just quietly learned.

You’ve taught us as much as we’ve taught you 🫶🏼

There’s this assumption that nobody is going to spend serious money on prints, and I get why people think that, BUT PEOPLE DO!!!!!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️

People care about their homes, they want things on their walls, and with frames now in the mix the price point goes up and so does the profit 🗣️

A 2 minute design and a 65.30 profit 🌟PrintShrimp handled every single bit of it 😌

That is the whole thing and it should not be slept on 💪🏼

The possibilities genuinely are endless when you factor in different sizes, different formats, framed, unframed, the same file just keeps finding new ways to make money 💰😭

A little tour of my Etsy shop 👀

Is it perfectly curated? No 😆 Do I have a specific niche I stick to religiously? Also no 😅

And yet, it makes me money every single month!💰

I think there’s this idea that your shop needs to look a certain way before it’s worth taking seriously. Like everything needs to match and fit neatly into one category and make sense as a collection 😌

Mine does not 😆 But I love it

I’ve got travel prints next to quote prints next to things I made on a whim and wasn’t sure about 😭 A bit of everything, a very relaxed approach to consistency if you will

And some of the random ones are my best sellers 🗣️

The variety is fine. The imperfect shop is fine. What is not fine is spending so long trying to get it perfect that you never actually open it 😅

Get it live. Keep adding. Figure out what works as you go 💪🏼 That is genuinely the strategy and this shop is the proof of it 👀
