We were back in the shop yesterday (which felt like coming home after lots of events out and about!) and it couldnā€™t have been with a better author. AK Blakemore visited with her epic and gripping new novel, Doom Painting. Thank you SO much to AK for coming, and to Anna Metcalfe for chairing such an interesting conversation šŸ’«

We are big fans of AK Blakemoreā€™s work here and Doom Painting, her third novel, more than lived up to expectations. Chronicling the events of the Peasants Revolt in a day by day account this story is fascinating and extraordinary. You can get your beautiful sprayed edge signed copy in the shop now!

What a privilege to get to celebrate Birmingham and be part of IDOB ā¤ļø

First of all a MASSIVE congratulations to Nicola and Jake for what they put together!! HOW DID THEY DO IT!? It was epic! And to everyone else behind the scenes across the two days šŸ‘ šŸ‘ Thank you for having us be a part of it.

The final day yesterday in the council chamber was fantastic with Switch Radio and Friendly Fire Band kicking it off with Album Club, followed by Uni of Birmingham and Birmingham United- a celebration of Birmingham Football, Sally Chidlow led a game of Exquisite Co**se (see photos and videos) - which was fun for all ages (remember before we had phones and the internet šŸ˜‚) and told us about Birmingham Surrealists! Bradley Taylor had HUGE queues for his poetry on demand and wrote over 100 poems across the two days!! Finally we were joined by Cold War Steve and some Bennyā€™s Babbies authors Kit de Waal and Mike Gayle for a beautiful celebration of Birmingham and Cold War Steveā€™s Bennyā€™s Babbies. Such a great way to round off the two days of events we hosted.

Thanks SO much to all the speakers, to University of Birmingham for sponsoring the events, Birmingham City Council (UK) for lending us the council chamber, all the lovely tech guys over the two days. Special thanks to Elizabeth Green for helping us set up, Helen Annetts for your help and wisdom across the two days, and Bradley Taylor for the help and support ā¤ļø ā¤ļø ā¤ļø

Bradley Taylor and Ayan Aden gave a beautiful tribute to Benjamin Zephaniah ā¤ļø
Bradley Taylor had huge queues of people for his poetry on demand and delivered something special to every single one šŸ«¶
Barbara nice brought the bingo which was as brilliant as always šŸ’«
And Trevor Beattie rounded off the day with his amazing story šŸ™Œ

What a night! Clare Balding absolutely captivated our audience at The Crescent Theatre with stories of her brilliant career in television as well as her ā€˜Ramblingsā€™ and her role as an author with her book, Pastures New out now in paperback.

Warm, funny and engaging, we listened to her stories of London 2012 (her favourite event ever to work on) and how scary it is filling time on live television (definitely worth doing your homework!)

Our Catherine was finishing up a very long day at the Council House for International Day of Birmingham so Claire started the event with a different Katharine - Olympian, Katharine Merry! Huge thanks to her for chairing the event and looking fabulous for it!

Thank you to Clare for coming to Birmingham, Katharine for hosting, Liz and Maud from HarperCollins, Helen and Rosie for helping, Dave Appleby for BSL interpreting, all the staff at The Crescent Theatre and to everyone who came along. Your support means we can keep bringing wonderful authors to Birmingham.
