The collection and business has been passed down by my grandfather who amassed 4 decades of book collecting and selling.

A signed edition from one of contemporary literature's great voices πŸ“–

Signed copy of Home by Marilynne Robinson β€” the companion novel to Gilead, returning to the Boughton family and exploring family, faith, love, memory and the difficult process of coming home.

Quiet, profound and beautifully written, Home won the 2009 Women's Prize for Fiction and remains one of Robinson's most admired novels.

A wonderful signed edition for collectors of modern American literature.

Three signed books, three very different stories πŸ“š

πŸ“– Home β€” Marilynne Robinson
πŸ•΅οΈ The Spy Who Loved β€” Clare Mulley
πŸ•―οΈ The Sin Eater β€” Alice Thomas Ellis

From quiet literary fiction to an extraordinary wartime spy story and some wonderfully dark British humour.

This is probably my favourite thing about having a bookshop β€” the shelves can go from Marilynne Robinson to wartime espionage to Alice Thomas Ellis in about three steps.

Which one catches your eye?

There's something about Raymond Briggs that instantly takes you back...

The Puddleman is one of those books that feels wonderfully simple, but there's so much imagination packed into those pages.
And finding one signed by Briggs? That's the bit that makes this one particularly special.

Did you grow up with Raymond Briggs?

A little bit of Raymond Briggs magic 🌧️
Signed copy of The Puddleman by Raymond Briggs β€” a charming story of childhood imagination, featuring Tom, his grandfather and the mysterious Puddleman.

Briggs' wonderfully distinctive illustrations bring everyday life and childhood fantasy together in a way that feels both nostalgic and completely timeless.

A particularly lovely signed copy for collectors of Briggs, children's literature and illustration.

I've always had a soft spot for books that really capture a sense of place.

This one isn't just about Hebden Bridge β€” it's about the people, characters and changes that made the town what it is.

And there's something rather nice about having the author's signature in it too.

Would you read this one?

A fascinating portrait of a very distinctive British town 🏑

Signed copy of Hebden Bridge: A Sense of Belonging by Paul Barker.

Part social history, part personal memoir and part portrait of a changing community, Barker explores what makes Hebden Bridge such a remarkable and unusual place. The book draws on memories, interviews and observations to create a vivid sense of place.

A lovely signed edition for collectors of local history, social history and beautifully observed British life.

Now this is a book with a bit of personality...
Brian Sewell was never exactly known for holding back, and that's part of what makes his memoirs so much fun.
I really like coming across signed copies of books by authors with such distinctive voices.
Would you have this on your shelves?

A fascinating signed memoir from one of Britain's most outspoken art critics 🎨
Signed copy of Outsider II: Always Almost; Never Quite by Brian Sewell β€” the second volume of his entertaining and often provocative memoirs.
Sewell's wit, candour and unmistakable personality make this a particularly enjoyable book for anyone interested in art, culture and the more colourful characters of the British cultural scene.

Not every signed Ian McEwan is one you see every day.

This is one of those books that often surprises people when they spot it on the shelf. It's a little different from his novels, which is exactly why I like it.
Would you add this to your collection?
