Happy New Year all hope your 2026 is off to a good start, work has continued over the holiday period and into 2026.

Updates on the car, last time you saw her she was just going in for bodywork and now we can show you her back in her true colours.

Bodywork all complete and painted, she’s rolling on her race gear and now the task of fitting all the original parts back to the car and any parts that have gone missing over her life are being replaced with new or second hand parts all in the name of keeping her identity. Carefully analysing all the period photographs to put every part back the way she was in 1978.

So many hours was spent getting all the lines correct and in the right place. All the gaps shapes and angles have been meticulously studied from our photo archive and replicated. We are over the moon with how she looks.

We will show you some more updates as parts are sourced and fitted.

Another incredible smattering of period photos of The Triplex Capri from 1978 with Gerry Marshall at the wheel.

Some lovely early ones from Silverstone before the crash that changed her identity for the rest of her life. Fantastic seeing Gerry wrestle the old girl up on 3 wheels into a corner with his signature style.

We have some interesting information about the Triplex Capri as ever with a project like this the more you look the more you get so when you keep digging you keep finding.

So the origin of the car has never been clear but now it is. Colin Vandervell was rallying MK1 escorts in 1974/1975 and was doing very well despite this photo of inevitable accidents that occur whilst rallying. These escorts were built by David Sutton who built and prepared the majority of the Es**rt rally cars on behalf of Ford Advanced Vehicle Operations, Colin and David were good friends as David built Colin’s escorts which were also Triplex sponsored.

Ford closed its AVO department in January 1975 and left its performance development to its Ford Motorsports sector in cologne and that is where the Triplex Capri’s was born. Colin wanted to move into saloon car racing and along with the skilled David Sutton they built the car from a bare shell for Colin to race. The deal was that the car still belonged to Ford and Colin would race it with Ford backing for parts and support. Rather impressive to find out that she was a works Ford racecar. Finally finished towards the end of 1975 and tested both the car and Colin were ready for the 1976 British Saloon Car Championship.

Some exciting Triplex Capri news! With help from Stuart Caie, chairman of the CTCRC, we’ve managed to track down Denis Davidson — father of racing driver Anthony Davidson. It was Denis who originally sign-wrote the car for Gerry Marshall back in 1978, and he’s thrilled to hear the old girl still exists and can’t wait to see her back on track soon.

After a few back and forth messages he told us that Gerry Marshall asked him to sign write the car for him after the accident at Oulton Park when she changed from a Mk2 Capri to a Mk3 via Mk3 front wings, front panel and bonnet.

So far this page has just been a lot of information about The Triplex Capri’s history, story and progress.

We are going to drop in some of the more fun parts of a project like this such as finding period photos. After a little searching we found the original photographer that took a photo we had in our folder and we asked if he had any more, he came back with this little treasure trove.

Absolutely fantastic photos, which one is your favourite ? It’s hard to decide but we love the rear shot at Mallory but I think No1 goes to the Lap 1 at Donington, amazing picture. Some great names in that lot !

🚗🏁 We’re excited to share some big news! After 47 years, Triplex Safety Glass (Pilkington Classics) is teaming up once again with the legendary Triplex Capri.

Stay tuned for updates coming soon! You’ll soon be seeing her back on the track in 2026 for the 50 year anniversary. as expected, the Capri will be sporting a new tinted windscreen made by us, just like the one the car would have had straight from the factory.
