Today’s career course students created this abundant seasonal cake meadow using 100% British-grown flowers and foliage 🌿✨
Flowers were beautifully supplied by Naomi and complemented with freshly gathered garden foliage for a wonderfully natural, just-picked feel.
The meadow base was constructed in individual sections using chicken wire and moss, allowing each student to create and build their own piece independently before bringing everything together around the cake. A practical approach for the classroom.
For a larger-scale wedding version, I’d adapt this using a willow ring with moss.
We also used compostable caddy bags underneath, finished with hessian to protect the table and create a softer, more natural presentation around the cake stand.
This could obviously be created directly into water using small vessels and low containers, however I felt for ease of transportation moss is a great option.
Filled with beautiful seasonal ingredients including garden roses, colibri poppies, perennial cornflowers, aquilegia, sweet rocket and ranunculus, then finished with homemade Victoria sponge layered with fresh cream, jam and strawberries… absolutely delicious 🍓🍰
Such a lovely day of flowers, mechanics, creativity and cake
