🎶 You might not know, but Rob runs a monthly Vinyl Social night at New Era Coffee Bar in Sheldon, playing alongside a different guest DJ each month.

Tomorrow it’s starting an hour earlier and running half an hour later — 5pm until 10:30pm.

That extra early hour means Rob can dig a little deeper into the singles — some 70s, a bit of reggae, Paul Simon, a few obscurities and even the odd slightly cheesy one. Basically, just good records that are fun to hear again.

Later on, things move into the usual mix of funk, disco and house, with Martin Dean joining Rob for this month’s session.

Looking at these photos got me thinking…

McDonald’s isn’t really the story here. It’s a reflection of what has happened to the high street.

Less colour. Less character. Less reason to hang around.

Everything feels designed to get you in and out as quickly as possible.

Has modern retail improved our town centres, or have we lost something along the way

This Saturday at New Era Coffee, Vinyl Social Club is back!
i’ll be djing and playing 100 percent on vinyl 💙

We’re opening an hour earlier at 5pm, and the bar will be serving until 10:30pm, giving everyone plenty of time to get down and enjoy the evening.

There’s more seating in the outside area too, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the music with a drink.

Looking forward to this one — it’s going to be fantastic!

Do you still listen to or collect cassette tapes? 📼

We’ve just had in a great collection, mostly from the 80s, including a strong selection of Madonna, some brilliant rock titles and plenty of other nice collectible pieces.

We always enjoy getting different types of music in on different formats.

A really nice collection has just come in. Plenty of ELO, some cracking Beatles albums, and a great selection of Queen records that never seem to stay on the shelves for long.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the Kung Fu and Enter the Dragon soundtracks. Had to give a few tracks a spin, and they brought back plenty of memories.

Loads more to get through, so keep an eye out as more hits the racks! 🎶

🎶 This Saturday! Vinyl Social Club returns to New Era Coffee 🎶

This Saturday 8 August, resident DJ Rob Hadley returns with another 100% vinyl set, joined by special guest Martin Dean – a hugely experienced DJ from the North with an incredible record collection and years of experience hosting events and playing alongside some brilliant names.

Rob will be taking you through a journey of soul, funk, disco, boogie and house, all played on vinyl, while Martin brings his own style and experience to what promises to be a fantastic night.

If you’ve been meaning to come along and see what Vinyl Social Club is all about, this is the perfect night to do it. Great music, a friendly crowd and a relaxed atmosphere – and best of all, it’s completely free.

If you can’t make this one, we’ve also got another great night lined up on Saturday 12 September, when Rob will be joined by Birmingham DJ and promoter Andy Coleman.

We don’t get many donations like this, so this was a nice surprise…

Someone dropped off a box full of records, and apart from spotting one that looked pretty decent on the front, I genuinely haven’t been through them yet.

So I thought we’d have a look together and see what’s hiding inside. You never know with donated collections… it could be full of common stuff, or there might be a few real gems in there.

Let’s dig in and see what we’ve got!

One thing we’ve been working through recently is a big batch of Beatles albums… and if you’ve ever tried identifying Beatles pressings, you’ll know it’s not as simple as reading the catalogue number! 🎶

Some copies look almost identical, so you’re checking printer credits, dead wax run-outs, flipback sleeves, labels, and all sorts of tiny details just to work out exactly which pressing you’ve got. By the end of it, you feel a bit like Sherlock Holmes! 🕵️‍♂️💿

With a big helping hand from my brother, we’ve finally got loads priced and out in the racks.

Alongside the Beatles, we’ve also added plenty of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and lots of other classic rock favourites. The record department is looking well stocked at the moment, so if you’ve been meaning to come and have a dig, now’s a great time.
