Since 2019, Zoe has had multiple surgeries due to different health reasons, and this has led her to having three different stomas.

Meet Emma – a nurse taking on an extraordinary 100‑mile ultra marathon while living with a stoma!

Emma has lived with a stoma for eight years following surgery related to Crohn’s disease.

The incredible support she’s received from the Specialist Stoma Service has inspired her to give something back, and help to ensure other patients receive the same care, encouragement and confidence she did.

As a nurse, Emma regularly supports patients who are adjusting to life with a stoma and often shares her own experiences to help reassure and inspire them.

All funds raised will go directly to the Specialist Stoma Service, helping the team continue providing extra support, resources and improvements for people living with a stoma across Mid Cheshire.

Yvonne has had a stoma for 14 years, and has reflected on the resilience that comes with living with a stoma over that time.

Her words highlight something we often overlook, that strength doesn’t always look the way people expect.

Sometimes, it’s found in the quiet act of simply getting up and facing the day.

Living with IBD and a stoma isn’t just a physical journey — it’s a mental and emotional one too. The courage it takes to keep showing up often goes unseen, but it’s real.

Welcome to the Bedroom Diaries: where we talk openly about intimacy, connection and the realities of relationships when you’re living with a stoma.

Confidence in intimacy takes time and can come more easily from building a connection.

For some, it’s finding a partner who brings trust and reassurance. For others, it’s being able to laugh together when the stoma does its own thing.

Everyone is at different stages in their journey when it comes to relationships and intimacy, and that’s completely normal.
