Guthrie and Ghani - Dressmaking Fabrics, Sewing Patterns and Haberdashery

Well, the weather has definitely taken a turn, so this project feels very well timed! 🍂

My latest addition to Lauren’s Wardrobe is the Megan Nielsen Jarrah Sweater, made in our super cosy Maroon Snuggly Sweatshirting.

For this make, I wanted to give an everyday sweatshirt a little something extra, so I added our exclusive Bee Happy Blooms embroidery detail. I still absolutely love it and wear it on repeat! It’s such a fun way to personalise a simple, useful layer and make it feel that bit more special.

🐝 A little trip back to where it all began…

It still feels quite surreal to think that I was a contestant on the very first series of The Great British Sewing Bee!

I was still fairly early in my sewing journey at the time, so there were plenty of moments that pushed me completely outside my comfort zone – sewing against the clock, tackling tricky challenges and even making a sequin evening gown for my sister! 😅✂️

I learnt SO much, got to sew alongside some incredibly talented people and came away with memories that I’ll always look back on very fondly. 💛

🎀 Tap, tap… and suddenly my vest top has a bow!

I’ve been playing around with this little Bow Shoulder Tie detail and I’m slightly obsessed with how much it changes a simple vest top.

It’s cute, super quick to sew, brilliant for using up scraps AND there’s a clever little bonus… you can tie it around your bra strap too to help keep it neatly hidden! 🙌

🍂 Are autumn sewing projects starting to creep onto your sewing list too?

I've noticed lots more cosy layers, jackets and transitional makes appearing in your orders recently, so I thought this was a good time to reshare one of my really useful sewing tutorials.

In this blog, I show you how to attach anorak snaps using the Prym Creative Tool, from working out your spacing and marking the placement to using punch pliers and attaching the snaps themselves.

I'm demonstrating the technique on my Ruby Vest, but it's a skill you can take away and use on any project that calls for snaps. Once you know how, it's much less daunting than it looks!
