Top tips for flower preservation...
Thinking of popping your bouquet in the fridge before sending it for freeze drying? Please donโt ๐ธ
I know it feels like the safest option, but fridges can actually do more harm than good when it comes to preserving your flowers.
Hereโs why๐โ๏ธ Moisture build-up โ Domestic fridges create condensation, which adds unwanted moisture to delicate petals๐ซ๏ธ Cell damage โ Fluctuating fridge temperatures can start breaking down the flower structure before preservation even begins๐ฅ Discolouration risk โ Extra moisture and cold stress can lead to browning, translucency, or patchy colour loss๐ Ethylene exposure โ If stored near fruit/veg, flowers can age and deteriorate much faster
โจ What to do instead:Keep your flowers in a cool, dry space, out of direct sunlight. If possible, leave them in water until youโre ready to send or drop them off.
Freeze drying works best when flowers arrive as fresh and natural as possible โ not pre-chilled or stressed.
