'Mel Gibson's politics notwithstanding, this is a terrific film. It is fundamentally about enduring and conquering fear. Its narrative drive is as lethal as a bullet.'

Samantha recommends 'Mort' by Terry Pratchett.
'This was my first Discworld book which has led to a quest to buy them all second-hand from Oxfams (four to go!). It's funny, irreverant and a brilliant concept of Death and the afterlife. It can be read as a standalone or as part of the wider Discworld series.'

Samantha recommends 'I Who Have Never Known Men' by Jacqueline Harpman.

'I read this book in one sitting and it stayed with me for weeks. Uncomfortable, but in a powerful way. Haunting dystopia/speculative fiction.'

Ingrid recommends 'The Thursday Murder Club' by Richard Osman.

'The books are about seniors who solve murder mysteries. In essence the stories follow the pattern of Enid Blyton’s “famous five stories”. The setting is a retirement home, each character has their set characteristics, even a dog is tagging along. I love these unorthodox murder stories because they are hilariously absurd.'

Kyle recommends 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' by John Le Carre.

'Tensions rise in the world of 20th century British spycraft as a Soviet mole is destroying the "Circus." Brilliant, quiet, and masterfully written. A true classic.'
