A distinctive Tudor diver from the brand’s pre-Black Bay era.

Built around a stainless steel case, this Prince Date Hydronaut features a woven carbon-fibre dial, unidirectional dive bezel, sapphire crystal with Cyclops date magnifier, and 200m water resistance.

Inside is the proven ETA 2824-2 automatic movement, while the Jubilee-style steel bracelet gives the watch a more refined character than a conventional dive watch.

What makes this example particularly interesting is the carbon-fibre dial — an uncommon configuration that gives the otherwise utilitarian Hydronaut a distinctly technical appearance.

Now discontinued, the Prince Date Hydronaut represents an overlooked chapter of Tudor’s modern history, from the period before the brand’s Black Bay-led revival.

The Tudor Prince Date Ref. 74034 is a wonderful example of Tudor’s ability to combine classic Swiss watchmaking with the timeless elegance of the Oyster-style design. While the reference is known for its compact 34mm case and fluted bezel, examples fitted with an attractive Mother-of-Pearl (MOP) dial are particularly interesting to collectors looking for something less conventional.
The 74034 remains a relatively understated Tudor, but its combination of proportions, precious-metal detailing and distinctive dial makes it an increasingly appealing neo-vintage watch.
The real attraction of this particular example is the Mother-of-Pearl dial.
Unlike a conventional silver, black or ch*****ne dial, Mother-of-Pearl has a natural surface that interacts with changing light. The dial can reveal subtle variations in colour and depth, giving every watch a slightly individual character.

The reference 76213 is part of Tudor‘s Prince Date-Day family and is recognised for its classic 36mm Oyster-style case, two-tone construction and fluted yellow-gold bezel.

Examples from 1997 are commonly found with stainless-steel and yellow-gold construction, automatic movements and day-and-date displays. Contemporary examples demonstrate the 76213’s characteristic 36mm case, yellow-gold bezel and two-tone bracelet.

The proportions are one of the reasons the 76213 remains attractive today. At 36mm, it sits comfortably between traditional vintage dress watches and larger contemporary sports watches, making it remarkably versatile.

THE ROLEX OYSTER CONNECTION

One of the most fascinating aspects of vintage Tudor is its close relationship with Rolex.

The case backs of period Tudor Oyster watches can carry the famous “Original Oyster Case by Rolex Geneva” engraving, reflecting Tudor‘s historical connection to Rolex and its Oyster case technology. A 1997 example of the 76213 is documented with this Rolex Geneva Oyster case-back marking.

This connection gives the watch an important place within the history of Tudor. While Tudor was positioned as a more accessible alternative within the Rolex family, it was never simply a generic watch brand.
