The temperature dropped almost 20 degrees overnight down here in Cornwall this week, which was a bit of a shock! Whilst we were mostly just feeling grateful to have some rain finally, it also meant we were back to wearing layers!

These raw silk scarves are the perfect mid-season accessory for changeable weather - they're lightweight and compact enough to pop in a handbag, and seem to magically adjust to just the right level of warmth. With a beautiful slubby texture, these handwoven scarves are a wonderful way to add a pop of colour to any outfit.

Available in a range of colours in our online shop today: https://www.textiletraders.co.uk/collections/silk-and-cotton-scarves

Holiday mode activated! I'm taking my daughter on a bit of a UK road trip over the next week, and with everyone else also juggling childcare the online shop is being left to fend for itself for the week! The shop remains open, and all orders will be upgraded for free to Tracked24 and posted next Friday (28th August).

Thank you to everyone who ordered an indigo or clay resist kit, they've all been sent out now, and there are still some available in the "batik kits" section of our shop.

Are you itching for a new project to fill these long, hot summer days? Good news - we've been working on some new indigo kits, and they're finally ready to order!

Here's what we've put together for you:

πŸ’™ Indigo dye kit - everything you need to build a fructose vat using organic Indian indigo.
πŸ’™ Indigo batik kit - create your own piece of indigo batik on high quality primissima cotton. Includes soda ash for scouring your fabric, dye vat ingredients, wax and fabric as well as a copper canting.
πŸ’™ Indigo batik scarf kit - as above, but with a cotton scarf instead of primissima
πŸ’™ Clay resist kit - designed to go with our indigo dye kit, make your own clay resist paste to create patterns and pictures on fabric.

Orders are open now! To make things a bit easier for us (because we're in the middle of the summer holiday juggle over here) we're doing this as a bit of a pre-order sale, so rather than shipping orders as they come in, we'll be sending them out all together by the end of next week.

🌞 HOLIDAY TIME 🌞 We're out of office this week visiting family and celebrating a friend's 40th. The online shop is still open for business, and any orders placed this week will be upgraded for free to Tracked24 and posted when we return next week.

If you're in Shropshire, then Sean will be opening our shop in Bishop's Castle Tuesday - Saturday this week, but will be closing early on Saturday.

Last week I took myself off to an artists residency at .farm in Somerset, and it was all kinds of wonderful!

If you're interested in indigo dyeing or clay resist then I'm working on a handful of new kits as we speak - I had such a wonderful time experimenting with new techniques, and can't wait to share them with you! Thank you to the lovely for having me, and for giving me the space to play all week!

Some of you have been here much longer than the four years that Sean and I have been in charge, but a lot of you have joined very recently, so I thought it might be nice to do a little intro and give a bit of our back story.

There are actually three sides to this little textiles business - the online shop, the shows and events, and the bricks and mortar shop in Bishop's Castle, Shropshire (which keeps irregular hours - if you're wanting to visit it's always best to call or email ahead).

The past four years have been a steep learning curve, but Sean and I have been lucky enough to be able to lean on Jim and Di, who founded the business, for lots of support. Hopefully one day they will actually get to properly retire!

Head to our website to browse our range of fabrics, shop batik supplies, and find out more about our in-person events.

TOMORROW & THURSDAY! We're back at the beautiful Hellens Manor in Much Marcle, Herefordshire for this year's Textile Bazaar. This is always one of our favourite shows of the year, especially when the weather is as glorious as it is right now.

Come and immerse yourself in all kinds of textiles from around the world, take a stroll in the stunning gardens, and generally enjoy the English summer vibes of Hellens - it really is something special.

Open from 11am - 5pm Wednesday 8th, and 10am - 5pm Thursday 9th July.

If you remember my recent reel, I wasn't sure our striped indigo cotton fabric would be wide enough for a pair of vertical striped trousers. Turns out I needn't have worried - I even managed to fit the waistband below the trouser pieces.

These were a nice easy make, and work really well with our medium weight indigo fabrics. I have a feeling this is the first of many pairs that I will make.

Fabric: indigo cotton
Pattern: Chanterelle

I'm on a mission to showcase our beautiful fabrics through projects like this, so if you're a sewist who loves unique textiles and indie pattern makers then give us a follow!
