If used correctly our candles will provide you with a beautifully clean burn – soy and vegetable waxes perform differently to the more commonly used paraffin wax used in high street candles, so here’s some tips!

The first time you light your candle let it burn until the wax has melted right to the edge, failure to do so will result in your candle “tunnelling”. You know the one, when you end up with all the wax stuck up the sides 🙈

Keep your wick trimmed to 5mm at all times. The wick should be trimmed after every use. If your wick doesn’t appear to be burning very well on first lighting, extinguish the flame, trim the top of the wick and relight it.

Due to the nature of soy wax, light your candle for no longer than 4 hours at a time. Once extinguished the scent will still linger and fill the space. Keeping soy candles lit for too long can cause the candle to get too hot and burn off the fragrance too quickly.

We recommend using a candle snuffer. I know it sounds boujee, but it stops your cotton wick from going crooked and prevents sooting.

Place your candles on a lower surface (ie a coffee table) but safely out of reach of children or pets. This will help with scent throw, as heat rises and the scent with it, therefore the lower your candle is the more of the room it will fill with gorgeous fragrance.

EXTRA TIP! Place a wax melt in a hallway or at the bottom of your stairs if you want to fill your upstairs rooms with fragrance!

✨ Wax Melts ✨

With 6 scents to choose from these little beauties are the perfect way to try out our fragrances. Pop them into your burner and melt with an unscented tea light to enjoy 8-12 hours of fragrance per melt.

Tonight I’m melting Sicilian Lavender with a face mask on and some profiteroles in my gob. I challenge you to name a better way to spend a Friday night. 😉👌🏻⁣⁣⁣⁣

Scent and Memory 💭

Scent is so important because it can bring back memories that might otherwise never be recalled.

Typically, when someone smells a scent that is connected to a meaningful event in their past, they will have an emotional response first and then a memory may follow.

Smells are the only sensations that travel such a direct path to the emotional and memory centres of the brain. All other senses first travel to a region in the brain called the thalamus, which acts like a "switchboard," relaying information about the things we see, hear or feel to the rest of the brain. Scents bypass the “switchboard” which results in an intimate connection between emotions, memories and scents.

Some of my strongest scent memories are from holidays. That smell you get when you step out of the airport doors and into the heat ☺️ But another of my strongest scent memories are linked to people or homes. I can still smell my gran and papa when I walk into my parent’s house even though they’ve passed. Isn’t your sense of smell amazing?

Slip into something comfortable; a great loungewear set can do wonders for your mood. Don’t forget the soft socks.

End your work day with a celebratory drink. It doesn’t have to be alcohol! Make it something a bit special though. A gin with a botanical garnish or what about ginger b**r & apple juice in a pretty glass?

Create a sensory experience. Did you know that your sense of smell is the one that has the most immediate impact on your mood? Light your favourite candle, breathe deep and enjoy being present in that moment.

Meditate. Take 10 mins to switch off your phone, close your eyes and listen to your breathing. There’s load of apps to help you meditate if you’re unsure where to start.

Nourish your skin. Take an extra 5 minutes on your skincare routine or do some facial massage to release tension from your jaw muscles and your neck.

Lying in bed after a lovely Christmas Day spent with the family and it’s blowing my mind that some of you lovely people were actually opening up my products as Christmas presents this year. 🤯

Feeling incredibly grateful for all your support for the last three months. ❤️ My aim as a brand was to make home fragrance as eco friendly as possible and I’m excited to see what 2022 brings for Meliora 🌱
